Bagelmom
:) I will be in NYC Oct 24-28 The best price I have found for MTS is $322. I am using HOTWIRE (through this site's link) because I like the idea of being able to pick an area. Is it unreasonable to think I can get a 3* or better room for $200-$225? Would Priceline get me better prices? Or are there tricks like checking Hotline everyday?I am new to this site and love the help and tricks you share.GO BLUE!!! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! As you're finding... an expensive time in NYC! :) Priceline is usually a little less expensive than priceline, and you have the same ability to choose an area (as defined by priceline's boundaries), but you have less ability to target (or avoid) specific properties and need to be able to accept any hotel at the star rating you've selected in the zone(s) you've selected. Is MTS the only zone you're willing to accept? I do think you can do better... either higher quality hotel for similar rate or a similar quality hotel for less money, but it may not be in the MTS zone? As this isn't usually the first zone that users seek to bid, is there a reason you're focusing on this particular area? Bagelmom
I am not married to the location. I will be attending a conference near Madison Square Garden. As a single female with meetings going to 10:00 at night, I was looking for convenience/safety. But I am a big city girl and I don't mind using the subway. NY is so busy all the time it's not like I will be traveling abandoned streets. So yea, I would consider other areas. Link to comment

Bagelmom
o.k. I got panicky. I have been bidding on all MT zones for the past three weeks with no luck. I began at $120 (ha ha ha!!) and slowly worked my way up. Out of desperation I added UN-CPS and won. I wanted to be closer to Madison Square Garden. $300 really was as high as I could go.I figure I am paying less than I would have, had I made a reservation any other way. The price for this at hotel at Hotels.com was: Wed $439.00 Thurs$399.00 Fri$349.00 Sat $349.00 for an average of $384 a night. Tripadvisor.com at a price of $378.I ended up winning the Wellington Hotel at $300 a night. I am worried because it has mixed reviews. I was hoping that a 3* in New York would have reasonably good reviews. I don't mind small (it IS New York) I really just want clean, safe, bug free, musty free with all the fixtures working. Here is how I bid:3*MTE MTW MTS $280rejected3* MTE MTW MTS added UM-CPS$300won the Wellington HotelI hope I don't find it too bad. I wish others better luck. :) Link to comment
thereuare
Thank you for sharing your winning bid with the board. Most NYC hotels get mixed reviews... when guests come to the realization that they'll need to be spending a LOT of money for a hotel room, they at least expect something 'grand', but rooms are notoriously small and they're often disappointed right off the bat, and it's often hard to recover from first impressions. On the plus side, the location is very good and it should prove to be a good location to easily get around the city.Enjoy your stay and have fun in NYC.
