Tinabull
Hi everyone, I am a newbie to this site from the UK.I am looking for 2 hotel rooms in Manhattan for 6 nights arriving 12th November and departing 18th November. At the moment prices look pretty high and we are all travelling on a real budget. I would be really grateful for advice on the following:- Is it too far in advance to get a good PL deal?- What star rating hotel can I reasonably expect to get for around $100 - $120 + tax?- What areas work out to be the cheapest? I don't mind what area as this will be my 6th visit to NYC but would like to be within a short walk of the subway.Thank you all in advance for your advice!Tina Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!- Is it too far in advance to get a good PL deal?See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.- What star rating hotel can I reasonably expect to get for around $100 - $120 + tax?I'm not so sure you'll be able to get anything above a 1* or 2* hotel for this price... and i wouldn't recommend bidding for such a low star level in NYC.- What areas work out to be the cheapest? It depends upon the star level... some area(s) have the most expensive hotels at the 4* level but the most reasonable 3* properties. Tinabull
Thanks for that - I had a feeling I wouldn't get a room that cheap never mind two! Please can you help me with a bidding strategy for a 4* in any area - transportation in NYC is so good that I don't mind where I stay as long as it is in Manhattan. Many thanksTina Link to comment
thereuare
This is a very expensive time of year in NYC and a 4* hotel can easily cost you well into the $200's... how high are you willing to go for a non-refundable reseration this far ahead of your trip? Tinabull
To be honest i would be happy with a 3 star - last time we did a priceline for NY we got the park Central which was fine and a good location. Please can you help with a bidding strategy for a 3 star - 2 rooms from 11/12 - 11/18.Non refundable this far ahead is fine as there is very little chance of out trip plans changing :) .ThanksTina Link to comment
thereuare
Are you still looking to keep your maximum bid at $120? We can suggest a 3* strategy with that maximum amount, but i'm very doubtful you'll have success given the time of year. Tinabull
I can go higher - what amount would you suggest is likely to be successful? Link to comment
thereuare
I'd guess you're probably looking at least $150+... maybe even closer to $200+.What is the best rate you're able to find thru traditional booking channels? Tinabull
Nothing below $300 through normal channels. Link to comment
thereuare
So based upon a conventional booking being $300+, how high would you currently be willing to go? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Tinabull
my preference would be for around $150. we are booked into a guesthouse which is far cheaper so have that to fall back on if pl doesn't come up with the goods! Link to comment
thereuare
...transportation in NYC is so good that I don't mind where I stay as long as it is in Manhattan.Just to confirm before suggesting a strategy... you're "ok" with the Downtown zone as well? Tinabull
More than happy - last time we were in NYC was Feb 07 and we stayed at the Embassy Suites which was a decent hotel. I quite like the way downtown is quiet at night so no problems there. Link to comment

Tinabull
Update.... none of these bidding strategies worked within our price bracket so we styed at the Chelsea Lodge which we had reserved as a back up.The Chelsea Lodge was so good that I think we'll stay here in future - you can't get better in NYC for $129.Tina Link to comment
