Hummus
It'd be great to keep it under $100 for the four of us. Don't care about luxuriously decandent 10* :)Any ideas where to find such a beast? I will use the Support links to purchase, of course. The fact that we are four makes things even more difficult...Thanks for any tips! Link to comment
runNgun
hotwire has a 3* in the South Strip zone (that appears to be the Excalibur) for $89 plus taxes, etc. That was based on 2 adults though so you'd have to be comfortable with getting a king bed and not a two doubles. Link to comment

Hummus
Cheapest option. :-)No problem with quad occupancy. Two rooms would be nice if only 10-20 bucks more expensive overall. Otherwise 1 room with two queen beds is our choice. Link to comment
mrxow
Well, if you want to do Priceline, you just don't know if you are going to have room for 4 people without bringing sleeping bags for the floor. If $120 is your upper limit for 2 rooms, go ahead and try PL for $50 or $60 for 2 rooms at a low * level and see what you get. I am not very optimistic about success with that, though.I just looked at Hotwire. I am not too familiar with Hotwire, but it appears they give the option to specify 4 people in a single room. This may limit the options, but one 1* for $72 in the south strip came up for your dates. Not sure what that would be, but if you want to have 4 people walk to the strip for under a hundred bucks, then there you go. Or for $106 you can get a 3* west of the strip for 4 people. Will you have a car? Some of these hotels have shuttles to the strip, too.In general, if you really want to do things cheap, you should ask yourself if it is important to be able to walk to the strip the entire time? Are you going to have a car so that moving hotels is a better option? Maybe you could stay on the strip one night or two. Or maybe, if you like the idea of walking to the strip, you might like to stay on one end of the strip one night and on another end another night. Lets say you did take the 1* on Hotwire for all three nights. Yea, you're on the strip, but are you going to walk to the Wynn. The strip is BIG and getting bigger. If I was on the south end of the strip and wanted to see the Wynn, I'd probably drive (or take the trolley thing they have or bus if I didn't have a car). And are you going to check out Fremont street? going to have to drive. Or the Stratosphere? I don't know what you plan to do in town or if you've been there much, so its hard to give advice. My point, though, is that if you insist on being within walking distance of the Strip, you might be consigning yourself to a borderline room which to me is silly if you are going to be jumping into your car to go see things. If you are going to have a car, I would try 2* on priceline west of the strip for 2 rooms. Start low and add the east of the strip zone then the strip zone as you raise your offer price. You can start really low and raise your bid a buck at a time and still be done with the process in a week considering you can re bid every 24 hours now. Link to comment
mrxow
I just looked again on HOTWIRE, and if you split your stay, you can get a 2* on the north strip for $98 per night for 4 people on Sunday and Monday nights. Or you could get the 1* for $53 for those 2 nights. On saturday, a 1*, presumably the one I mentioned before, is available on the 28th for $109 on the south strip. You mention clean and quiet, I think. Generally, even in a 1* on these sites you should expect clean. Who knows about quiet. I had a 1* in the bay area a few years ago. It was a Homestead. So it was clean. But the freeway was 50 feet away... Link to comment
thereuare
No problem with quad occupancyYou might have no problem with quad occupancy... but the hotel might :)Is booking a room for double occupancy (when you'll be quad) something you're comfortable with? Hotels in Vegas have begun charging outrageous fees for each person over double occupancy ($15-$30/per person per nite) so booking a room for quad occupancy could add as much as $60 onto your room cost. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Hummus
You mean booking for 2 and showing up with 4? :) Wouldn't that be against contract or something? Nothing ruins a vacation faster than being chased out of your hotel by security... So I guess we are not very comfortable doing that then. Unless everybody tells me it's OK in Vegas. :)Splitting: for 3 nights we would like to avoid that.I heaven't really thought about 1*, I was looking at 3*+. It depends on what that means in Vegas: dump or basic but utilitarian and clean? We DO have a car, so if parking on the Strip is easy, then we could stay a bit further and drive over. Not sure how much hassle would it be with wanting to see it all though - let me know if it isn't a great idea. All I know about Vegas I learned from CSI :o .So far the best offer I could find was about $350 for the stay (1room 2qeens 4ppl) at Circus Circus (3*, a bit further on the strip) through a "promotions" website. Should I be able to get something better for the money? And how?Thank you very much for all your help. Link to comment
mrxow
Vegas is so big that there have been articles lately about young, healthy people renting mobility scooters designed for handicapped people because they are so tired of walking. There is no way you can see it all by walking from one hotel. All the hotels have big parking structures that are free to park in. They want you to go to their casinos. The only issue with driving is if you intend to be drinking. If you want to use PRICELINE, you really need to book 2 rooms. If you use HOTWIRE, it appears you can specify a room for 4 people.Either way, use the links on this site if you want to try it. You might get something east or west of the strip for the prices you are looking for.If you want to see it all and you get a room mid-strip and pay a lot for it, you still will probably be getting in your car if you want to go look at TI or the Luxor or the Stratosphere or Fremont Street. You will not want to walk to Caesar's from Circus Circus. It's big. There are some tram options, though, and the monorail. For instance, you can stay at the Sahara and have a monorail pass and go all the way down to the MGM that way. I think there is a reasonable tram service, too and public buses. Link to comment
thereuare
Are you comfortable booking 2adults/2children... then only having one couple go to the check-in desk? This ensures 2 beds in the room but often can avoid the 'more than double occupancy' fee?Let us know as i have ideas based upon whatever your comfort level. Hummus
OK, let's say yes. Link to comment
thereuare
You can book the Excalibur for $107/nite average ($323 + tax for the stay) for 2adults/2children.Although far from my favorite hotel in Vegas, it's easily better than Circus Circus and gives you an excellent 'main strip' location for just about the same price. Hummus
Reading a little more on this, I don't think it's such a great idea. Not for us anyway. We'll pony up the cash. Do you still recommend Excalibur in that case? Link to comment
thereuare
No, as the rate goes up to ~$151/nite.At this point i would go with HOTWIRE where they offer 2 rooms (2 adults per room) at a 3* hotel on the Central Strip for $76/nite per room (believed to be the Imperial Palace). While the Imperial Palace won't "wow" anyone, it's location is fantastic and for the same money i would prefer two rooms here than one room at the Excalibur (imo)Some might say that since you'd now be considering two rooms you could try priceline, but i wouldn't recommend it in this situation since i would really want to avoid the Circus Circus area... HOTWIRE enables you to avoid this area since they split the strip into three different sections, while priceline includes them all into one "strip" zone. Please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Let us know your thoughts and what you decide or if we can be of further help. Hummus
And booked through your HOTWIRE link.It was indeed Imperial Palace, at $74/night though. Link to comment
