HappybayBen
Part two of three, for our HI car reservations. Won a convertible with Hertz at $33/day for seven days over (next) holiday week .Accessed PL with the SavingsBarn.com link, tried unsuccessfully for weekly Convertible deals like the $20 & $25/day wins in OGG and LIH recently reported in this forum.Re-tried at $25/day 3days later and was counter-offered one for $33/nt but I tried re-bidding for a shorter period (no luck). Ah- I had forgotten the public holiday, Memorial day! No wonder it is either sold out or expensive!Last night I repeated the process and took the $33 counter-offer, when offered.Convertible (unlimited mileage)Lihue AirportHertz CorporationPick-Up: Tuesday, May 22Drop-Off: May 29, 2007Your Offer Price: $33.00Total Rental Days: 7Subtotal: $231.00Taxes & Fees: $66.60Total Charges: $297.60As a frame of reference, I had reserved a $139 compact from Budget for a total of $189.Any comment on the effect of my quite last-minute timing of bidding and the relatively high cost relative to recent stories of $25/day wins? There is a Polynesian Festival this week which may also sell out rental companies.I'm Happy! Will I be able to add my Hertz #1 Gold number to the Rez, if I phone - and try to get the car quarantined so that it is there when we arrive around 9PM? Link to comment
thereuare
Thanks for using the SavingsBarn.com links to begin your bidding.I think you've already eluded to the reason for the higher bid needed than others before you... higher demand. Besides the holiday weekend, the Hawaiian islands tend to pick-up a little in the summer months and due to the higher demand, prices for everything hotels, car rentals, etc generally go up.Have a great trip!
