calboy07
planning to bid for venetian 5/1/07 to 5/4/07. rates showing on venetian website is $259/nite. thinking of starting w/ $150 and work the way up $5/rebid if necessary. willing to go up to $170 before tax & fee. but do not want to overbid, please advice if this strategy worksnever stay in venetian before, but believe all their rooms are suites, wonder if 6 of us could squeeze into one room (of course we don;t mind being a little too crowded, just want to experience the 5* hotel) are we going to have a hard time getting through the security since I read other post saying a security would make sure everyone has their keys/ Thx!! thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!IMO, six is pushing it. Even though the rooms are big, Priceline/HOTWIRE customers are typically assigned rooms with one bed... even with the pull-out couch you'd have two people sleeping on the floor (not to mention the keys/security issue). Sometimes you can upgrade to a two bedded room for an additioinal charge, but this isn't guaranteed... and the hotel has also been known to charge for more than double occupancy.Do you still want to try bidding? calboy07
thx for the fast response!! yup as long as the key/security issue is ok, we are fine w/ that. we'll have our sleeping bags ready or I should say we won't be sleeping much anyway. we just want to get a taste of how a 5* is like.but what's the price difference between 1 room in 5* vs 2 rooms in 4*? should I use a new post if I am to bid for 2 4* rooms? Thx!! Link to comment
thereuare
yup as long as the key/security issue is ok, we are fine w/ thatI'm not saying it is... this is something you and your group need to decide if you want to take such a risk. Bringing sleeping bags to a 5* hotel seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me.what's the price difference between 1 room in 5* vs 2 rooms in 4*?You can use HOTWIRE's $259/nite rate as a guage and know that you can get the Aladdin, a 4 star hotel, for $135/nite, the Luxor and Monte Carlo are each available for $107/nite, NewYork NewYork for $135/nite, and Treasure Island for $139/nite... so you can guage your maximum bid for a 5 star hotel knowing that you could get a 4* for these amounts.should I use a new post if I am to bid for 2 4* rooms?Keep all posts for this stay in this thread.Discuss it with your friends and let us know which way you want to go... we'll then suggest a strategy for whichever you decide. calboy07
ok I guess you are right. We don't want to take the risk and should go ahead w/ the 2 x 4* rooms. We now currently have a backup @ monte carlo @$103 for 2 rooms.I remember I saw a post somewhere saying that they have 4* Westin Casuarina for the same time period for $61/rm/nite. The problem is now I 1st want to try to low ball for 2 x 4* rooms but worry that I might end up getting Westin Casuarina which we don't prefer (i read some reviews about this hotel and it was a mix bag where people give it from 1* to 5*, so I am a little skeptical on this one. not to mention WC is not exactly on the strip) so what is your advice? should I keep my reservation w/ Monte Carlo or I should take the chance? thereuare
If you don't want to stay at the Westin that you shouldn't bid on Priceline. There is currently construction going on around the Monte Carlo, but it is centrally located and they have a great pool (if that's important to you).
