mccarthys5
Hi,Husband and I are traveling to Chicago for the 1st time for a weekend on November 4-6 (2 nights.) Never have been there and have read some threads here, but have little idea of where to start the bidding on Priceline for a hotel. We want a 4* property - am willing to pay up to $150/night for this - am I being realistic? Strategy? Thanks in advance, Suzanne Link to comment
thereuare
Which zone(s) are you willing to bid? I'm assuming by Downtown you mean NMA and Loop... but please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. mccarthys5
Yes, NMA and the Loop - sorry, should have given that information more accurately. We are only going for a couple of nights as you can see and don't want to be on the outskirts at all. Thanks - Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 4* in Chicago you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Loop...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Loop and re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* NMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* NMA and re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Loop and NMA...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Loop and NMA and re-bid zone2...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120.Start with the above and if rejected we'll take it from there.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. mccarthys5
Yes, very familiar with rebidding - as far as I understand it, I have the two rebid zones of Midway and Skokie. Please let me know if I am wrong, otherwise I will assume correct.I will use SavingsBarn link to begin my bids and let you know how I make out. Thanks for the bidding strategy.Suzanne Link to comment
thereuare
WARNING!!!New 4* hotel has been added to the Skokie zone (it wasn't there earlier today)... that area is no longer a re-bid zone! thereuare
Since you have a little time, and now only one re-bid zone, i'd take a 2-3 day bidding approach on this...Revised approach with only one re-bid zone, on your first attempt (this will likley fail but give it a go nonetheless):Select 4* Loop...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* NMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Loop and NMA...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105.If rejected post back and we'll advise for the next round of bidding.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. mccarthys5
Thanks for the information! I got tired last night and went to bed - plan on bidding at some point today. I am glad you let me know about Skokie. Just goes to show you none of this stuff is ever a guarantee!Suzanne Link to comment
AaronJB
On a semi-unrelated note, the 4* in Evanston/Skokie could only be the recently renovated Orrington in Evanston. Link to comment
mccarthys5
Hi, I just wanted to close out this thread. My Dad is sick (my parents are my babistters), so I have held off on bidding until I knew for sure that my parents would be able to watch the kids. Unfortunately, he still is not feeling well, so they can't take the kids for a full weekend quite now. We really want to visit Chicago, so I will refer to this information/strategy when we hopefully go in the spring. Thanks.Suzanne Link to comment
