cfprunner
I've had great success with Savings Barn and getting deals via Priceline but this time, I really do care which hotel I stay in. Any tips? The Marathon 'official hotel' is M-Bay and friends will be the Luxor. Any good suggestions?Legas.com has the Luxor for $140.40 a night. Link to comment
thereuare
Since you "do care" where you stay for this trip, what is the criteria that you're seeking? Is it simply a nice hotel on the strip or does it have to be near that end of the strip? What is your budget? cfprunner
We need to be near the start and finish of the marathon (M-Bay) and near our friends who are at the Luxor and M-Bay.Honestly though, for the right deal I'd stay further north. Excaliber was a dump last time I was there----about 6 years ago. Link to comment
thereuare
HOTWIRE has what is believed to be the Luxor for $123/nite. (please use the link at the beginning of this sentence of you go this route)Other good value is Aladdin (probably Planet Hollywood by the time December gets here) for $121/nite (and this is also cancellable up until 3 days before your stay). If you wanted to step up in price you could get Paris for $153/niteDo any of these work for you? cfprunner
What is your 'review' of the Trop. We can get the 'old' tower for $100. Link to comment
thereuare
If you didn't like the Excalibur i don't think you'll like the Tropicana at all... it's old(er) and is typically rated less than the Excalibur. For an extra $20/nite the Aladdin is definately worth the extra money (imo). cfprunner
I've plugged in 2 sets of dates for South Strip on Hotwire via the link you provided. If we just go with FRI & SAT Dec 8-9, the rate is $142 ****-Resort-Casnio-Fitness-Pool-Rest-Business-Hi Speed-Golf (No spa or Tennis)If we go with SAT, SUN & MON, Dec 9-12 (thus avoiding at least 1 of the expensive Friday/Saturday nights) the rate is $97. It should be noted that if you subtract the $142 cost for Saturday Night, the remaining nights are at $75, which is $5 more that the direct booking price. So, it is safe to assume 2 things: 1.) The Friday rate is most likely $10 more than the Saturday right--and 2.) There is no savings off the direct internet rate of $70 by using Hotwire.PS: I used the link to the Aladdin I and see $135 Resort/Fountain or $99 for Deluxe. Link to comment
thereuare
(No spa or Tennis)Click "view hotel details" or "continue"... do you then see these additional amenity icons?I'm not sure if i'm following your logic on the Friday/Saturday nite splits. May you not need certain nites that you've mentioned above? Note that some hotels don't allow Saturday check-in, so if you intend on SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID you should make sure that your Saturday nite hotel is available when booking Saturday-only.If you need to book the Luxor direct we are an affiliate so please use our Luxor link if you go that route. cfprunner
OOPS: Yes, SPA and tennis do show up under hotel details. Gotta be the LUXOR--99% sure.----------++++++++++-----------Here is what a currently thinking:We don't need to be at M-Bay or Luxor. M-bay looks pricey and may be sold out for one of the nights. The Luxor doesn't have a bath tub, which is nice to soak in after a marathon.Aladdin/Planet has nice tubs in their resort level rooms.Further, we can save $60 to $100 by staying SAT-TUES instead of FRI-MON.So as it stands, I suspect we will book the Aladdin for $115 (12/9 to 12/12) via the EasyClickTravel link you provided---unless you have a better idea. cfprunner
Do you recommend the Resort/Fountain rooms (about $40 more) or the Deluxe at the Aladdin. Link to comment
thereuare
I have never stayed at the Aladdin, but i don't think i would spend the extra $$ for a fountain view. I may ask or tip to try for an upgrade upon check-in, but i wouldn't be spending an extra $120 over 3 nites for the fountain view. tweekerz
In regards to the views at the Aladdin, The fountain view is nice... but remember, that their outdoor pool area completely sux. We used the Bellagios pools, since our friends stayed over there... yes, it was worth the 15 minute walk across the street. It was also the time for the hottest time in Vegas on record.July 17 2005.... 4 days of 115 + temps!!I asked for an upgrade to a better room when I checked in, and without actually handing over the $20 I had out... got a Fountain view in half of the window.... the other half of the window was facing the adjacent angle of the Aladdin building.... But we did see the Fountains!ThxMatt Link to comment
cfprunner
I just booked via the EasyClickTravel Link. I got Aladdin for $79 x 3 nights: Dec 9-12.I hope the construction is not an issue--but we can deal with it. I'll ask for a better room with my $20 in hand upon check-in. Link to comment

cfprunner
Hotwire just sent me an e-mail offering a 4 star Near East Strip for $74.CasinoFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-speed Internet AccessGolf NearbySpa ServicesThis could be the Westin?Would you take this over the Aladin/Planet Hollywood? Link to comment
thereuare
Best guess is that the above is the Westin. After HOTWIRE's fee this will actually cost more than the Aladdin. (i would actually be willing pay more for the Aladdin than the Westin... fortunately for you it's the other way around)As well, although i'm fairly confident this is likely the Westin, what if it's not... you coudl be substantially further from the strip than you think you'd be at with the Westin.I wouldn't switch as reviews of the Aladdin have been more favorable than the Westin, and the Alladin puts you directly on the strip with a great location.
