AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. Just to confirm, are you seeing this when searching for more than 2 adults? I'm not seeing it when searching for 2 adults, but when I search for 2 adults/2 children, I'm seeing: 4.5* HOTWIRE Magnificent Mile - Water Tower for $157.00 Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa Childrens Activities Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ==> Best guess would be the Westin Please confirm the amount of people in the party (as the search results will differ depending on how many are in the party) and let us know whether the Westin would be of interest. If not, let us know more about what you are looking for - I'm very familiar with Chicago and would be happy to offer hotel recommendations/answer any city questions. Thank you for keeping us updated. sueataylor
2 adults/1 child. I'm not excited about the Westin though, I didn't see it on the list of 4.5 star hotels. Hmmm. :-) I might need to look at 5 star options. Link to comment
thereuare
What is it that you don't like about the Westin? What is important to you in a hotel for this trip? What is your maximum budget? sueataylor
I read mixed reviews about the Westin. I think we may do the 5 Star option that is predicting the Park Hyatt. We won't have a car so easy access to a lot of sight seeing is important - I'm okay with up to $220 ish but want it to be a special hotel in that case. Link to comment
sueataylor
BTW, thanks for being so helpful. Do you have any input on the Intercontinental hotel? That looks like the likely pick for one of the 4.5 star options. Link to comment
thereuare
I'll defer to AaronJB to comment on the specifics about the InterContinental as he knows this area best, but i will also point out plenty of other 4.5* properties that also have good reviews (by best guess for each is listed inline after each description): 4.5* HOTWIRE River North for $130.00 Boutique Restaurant Fitness Smoke Free Free Internet Hi-Speed Internet Spa ==> The Godfrey Hotel 4.5* HOTWIRE Magnificent Mile - Water Tower for $144.00 Restaurant Pool Indoor Pool Fitness Smoke Free Hi-Speed Internet Business Laundry Golf Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower Pet Friendly ==> InterContinental Chicago 4.5* HOTWIRE River North for $161.17 Pet Friendly Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa ==> The Westin Chicago River North 4.5* HOTWIRE Theater District - Loop for $201.00 Boutique Restaurant Fitness Smoke Free Hi-Speed Internet Business Golf Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ==> The Wit a Doubletree Hotel 5* HOTWIRE Magnificent Mile - Water Tower for $209.00 Restaurant Pool Indoor Pool Fitness Smoke Free Free Internet Hi-Speed Internet Business Golf Spa Childrens Activities Pet Friendly ==> Park Hyatt Chicago Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. sueataylor
Thank you - of those, do you have a favorite? It seems that most (aside from the Godfrey which has queens) have bedding of two double beds as the only 2 bed option, which is what I assume we would get traveling with a child. Is that an accurate assumption? Vs. using a rollaway bed or pull out couch, etc. Link to comment
thereuare
If no BED CHOICE is offered then it's at the discretion of the hotel as to what type of room configuration you will receive... although HOTWIRE guarantees that the room will accommodate the number of guests you include in your search. AaronJB will be able to answer much better than i could as to which above offers the best value; for example, i think TheWit gets some of the best reviews and i like the location... but i can't say if it's necessarily worth $50+ per nite more than the InterContinental? (both are very highly rated so i would tend to think the $150+ would be better spent doing something in Chicago to make this trip memorable for your family) Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. sueataylor
So, in case AaronJB sees this in time, I've tentatively narrowed it to the 4.5 Star options that are betterbidding predicted to be the Godfrey, The Swissotel and Intercontinental (or possibly the one Thereuare is predicting as the Westin). The Park Hyatt price jumped overnight. Of those first three/four, any insight or favorites for a family? Link to comment
AaronJB
I'm seeing on HOTWIRE: 5* HOTWIRE Magnificent Mile - Water Tower for $241.00 Free Internet Pet Friendly Indoor Pool Smoke Free Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Spa Childrens Activities ==> This would likely be the Park Hyatt. While a bit more expensive, this is still a good deal for a 5* in Chicago in the Spring. You also can't get a better location right on Michigan Ave, not to mention a gorgeous restaurant in Nomi. 4.5* HOTWIRE River North for $119.00 Free Internet Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Hi-Speed Internet Spa ==> Godfrey. I enjoyed my stay at this property quite a bit. It's an easy walk to seemingly endless restaurant options in River North (including plenty of family-friendly options like Portillos) and it's not too far from here to Michigan Ave. The only note about this property is that I'd want to try and get a higher floor. There is a bar on the 4th floor with a retractable roof and I wouldn't want to be in a room right next to it. However, based on the experience I had I'd gladly stay here again. I wouldn't go with the Intercontinental, as I think the Godfrey is a better value for $119. The Westin River North is the nicer of the two Westin properties in the city, but doesn't provide a significant difference in location vs the Godfrey, whose $119 rate for the Spring is a very reasonable deal. The Intercontinental does have a pool, but it's not family friendly. So I'd really narrow it down to the Godfrey for the very reasonable (for Spring in Chicago) rate of $119 or the Park Hyatt.
