daticket
Looking for a hotel around Madison Square Garden in mid-April, but my concern is that we will only get a room with one bed through PL. We will be 2 adults and 2 teens, so we definitely need two beds. Any suggestions on how to use PL successfully for our needs? Or are we better off booking directly with a hotel? Prices/night are quite high, so booking 2 rooms (even through PL) would be rough. We're looking for 3.0/3.5+ stars hotel. Link to comment
AaronJB
In NYC, you're likely going to get 1 bed via PRICELINE bidding. Some PRICELINE EXPRESS listings do offer bed choice, but a room with two beds can be difficult and is often considerably more expensive when available. HOTWIRE offers bed choice less frequently, but if you search for quad occupancy, you should get some form of bedding for the whole party (that may mean 2 beds or 1 + rollaway or 1 + sofabed.) What would be your desired budget per night for this stay and what are the dates of travel? Additionally, please confirm the zones of interest. daticket
Thanks for the insight. Budget would be < $300/night, April 13-15, but that rate is looking pretty unlikely. Zones of interest would be either Chelsea or Madison Square Garden/Convention Center. Thanks for the pointer to MAPS and HOTELS.com...didn't realize there was a connection! Link to comment
AaronJB
Unfortunately, I'm really not seeing anything in those areas within budget - options are slightly over $300 (there is one for $296, but with a $32 resort fee.) On HOTWIRE when searching for 2a/2c, I'm seeing not far away: 4* Times Square North for $258.00 Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Spa Childrens Activities ==> The Sheraton TS has been seen with this amenity set previously, so that would be my guess. For about $50 less than comparable options in MSG/Chelsea, would this be of any interest? If not, let us know and we can do further research to look for other options. daticket
Thanks, Aaron! Will check that out. Thereuare - we'd like to be walking distance to MSG...seeing a show...Billy Joel! ;) Yes, we don't mind squishing in 2 doubles if we had to. I don't get the sense NYC has many 2 queen options. thereuare
Congrats on scoring Billy Joel tix! So if you have 10-25 things on your 'to do' list while in NYC, why choose your hotel focused on the location of this one event? I'm not saying that you shouldn't get a hotel near MSG, nor that you should stay in an inconvenient location, but given that rates are high and your budget is tight, if you could save $25/nite (that's $50) but need take a $10-$15 taxi ride back to your hotel at the end of the nite, wouldn't you be way ahead of the game? (especially if your 'new' hotel location has you close to other things you are hoping to do while in the city) Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. thereuare
For example, this PRICELINE EXPRESS offer: 4.5* Midtown East for $222 Pets Allowed Business Center Restaurant Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> best guess would be the InterContinental NEW YORK BARCLAY This offer gives a Bed Choice of '2 Double Beds' for this price, so although your reservation is technically for double occupancy, i don't know of anyone that has yet had an issue when showing up with triple/quad occupancy when the room is designed to accommodate that number of people. This hotel has been getting excellent reviews since the completion of their recent renovation, and it's a short walk to the Lexington Ave/53rd St station where you could take the E train directly to MSG (or the M train that would leave you a one avenue walk to MSG)... you could do this same commute in reverse back to your hotel depending how late the show gets out and if you want to take the subway after 11pm or so) Your thoughts? daticket
Hmm...an excellent option! We aren't tied to MSG area, just not familiar with the area at all, so we figured this was the best way to go. Just booked the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, and sure enough, InterContinental New York Barclay! Thanks so much for all your advice. Truly helpful, and we are excited to stay at this hotel! AaronJB
Congrats on your success. Really terrific deal for this property, which was given a very significant renovation (which cost $180m and the hotel was closed for a year) not that long ago. Glad you are pleased with the win and are excited about your stay. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. thereuare
As i often mention to anyone staying in this area, you're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. Have a great time in NYC and enjoy the Piano Man. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
