I had been trying for days to get a decent rate on a hotel in North Fort Lauderdale for this night, watching Hotwire and Priceline Express Deals and bidding with Priceline. But I was alarmed to see the rates for this holiday weekend night go higher and higher and see my options steadily dwindle.

So, the night before I needed the room, I decided to start looking in Boca, too -- 20 miles away. This seemed like a comparatively good rate on a great hotel ("95% recommended! Amazing!" Hotwire said), so I grabbed it.

The amenities were:

  • Free breakfast
  • Free internet
  • Free parking
  • Business center
  • Fitness center
  • Near beach
  • Pool(s)
  • Smoke-free rooms
  • Suite

The lowest advertised rate for this night on the hotel's website is $199. I accessed Hotwire via your website, so thank you!

This morning, Priceline Express Deals has a 3.5* hotel available in North Fort Lauderdale for $150. Argh! So, I just learned an important lesson: not to panic, not even at the last minute during a holiday weekend.

Thank you for sharing your results with the board and for using the board HOTWIRE link.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over the North Fort Lauderdale hotel appearing, as currently the best rate for a 3* hotel in the Boca Raton zone is $221/nite, and maybe next time you do wait and nothing drops in price and rates move higher and higher.  If you have a few months before your trip it can pay to wait is rates are unusually high, but waiting until a day or two before check-in is always a 'flip of a coin' proposition and can go either way.  Best bet is to 'know' a good deal when you see one (regardless of how far in advance it is of your arrival) and to grab it when you can, but if nothing comes into the price point 1-3 weeks prior to your check-in date then it's time to get a bit more serious as to where you will compromise (cost, zone, star rating, etc)

For this purchase I believe there may have likely been more amenities than you listed in your post, which would not have been seen unless you searched using the EASY VIEW TAB of our tool. (always use this method for your searches/purchases to ensure you're seeing the complete amenity set and for an easy comparison of PRICELINE vs. HOTWIRE, as well as to use our new IS THIS A GOOD PRICE feature).

Can you please add a reply to this thread confirming the full list of amenities associated with this property (including any accessible amenities)... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

Thanks, hope you're already checked-in and have begun to enjoy your stay.
