chri521
Want to take a nice long weekend trip with my wife and child, we haven't vacationed in ages and what better to escape the east coast cold than by going to the west coast for a few days. We won a bid for Holiday Inn at the wharf (using this board's help) 4 or 5 years ago so hoping we can get some suggestions / help this year for a trip next week. Forgot to say budget is about $150 for a nicer child-friendly hotel but we'll take what we can get obviously :) Happy to stay anywhere near the wharf, embarcadero, civic center (middle of market street)... basically anywhere middle and suitable for a child as mass transit is easy enough. Thanks all in advance! Link to comment
AaronJB
Is your desired budget of $150 per night for 2/2-2/6 and would go to 2/7 if options came in under desired budget or is $150 considering 2/2-7? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. chri521
Thanks Aaron will take a look, if I wanted to do bids for only 3.5 and above properties in these areas, how many rebid zones are there? Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 3.5* in the San Francisco area you have THREE re-bid zones. If you decide you'd like to move forward by bidding and would like help with a suggested bidding strategy let us know which zones (by PRICELINE name) that you're willing to accept and we will advise accordingly. chri521
I think we'd be fine with most of the zones in the heart of SF. The other issue is given I have my family with me bidding will be tough in terms of finding bigger rooms right? 1 Civic Center South - South of Market – detail map 2 Financial District - Embarcadero – detail map 3 Fisherman's Wharf – detail map Best deal 4 Japan Town - Civic Center North – detail map 5 Marina - Lombard Street – detail map 12 South of Market - Moscone Center – detail map 13 Union Square East - Nob Hill – detail map 14 Union Square West – detail map Link to comment
thereuare
Yes, more than double occupancy in many large cities, including San Francisco, can be an issue as rooms are usually small and hotels often have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed. If you bid on PRICELINE you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you bid and there is no way to target, or avoid, a hotel in the zone. In situations like this PRICELINE EXPRESS and/or HOTWIRE can be an option as both sometimes show a 'Bed Choice' option where you can book a room type that will meet your family's needs, you can try to guess the hotel being offered prior to your purchase and then determine if their standard rooms will meet your needs, or HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your group. Given your child is under 1 year old (as per your topic title) is the occupancy and/or room size an issue or do you want to move forward by bidding? chri521
My inlaws may now be accompanying me so I will head over to the hotwire side to take a look at hotels given your suggestion. Many hotels offer a crib or pack and play for the baby so that's definitely an option we want to explore as well. Thanks for the help here, should I repost this in the hotwire section asking for help id'ing hotwire hotels? Link to comment
AaronJB
Please continue posting in this thread and we will then move to the appropriate forum after you make a purchase. Thanks! Are your inlaws for certain coming with you (and you need to include them in the booking) or is it not yet confirmed? Do you need a second room or all 4adults (and a < 1 year old) will share one room? chri521
Awesome, so looking at hotwire (who seem to have upped those surcharges at the end to make their initial price per night seem low), I see these top options when filtering on 80% recommended and above. All these are above the initial budget because of the larger room requirement and also these hidden fees. Can you help ID these and suggest any others that may be within these parameters? thereuare
I believe there are likely more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you search using the EASY VIEW TAB of our BiddingHelper.com tool. (always use this method for your searches/purchases) If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to each of these listings, do you see more amenities (including any accessible amenities) then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing and my best guess for each: 3* South of Market - Moscone Center for $157.00 Complimentary Breakfast Free Internet Smoke Free Fitness Laundry Hi-Speed Internet ==> Hampton Inn San Francisco Downtown/Convention Center 3.5* Union Square East for $165.00 Free Internet Pet Friendly Smoke Free Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ==> Kensington Park Hotel 4* Fisherman's Wharf for $169.00 Free Internet Pet Friendly Near Beach Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ==> Hyatt Centric Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. chri521
Thanks using that option and have been tooling around with 2 rooms instead of 1... might be good to keep the inlaws separated from us :) The easy view is great except it doesn't show recommendations along with each price until you click through, no big deal just an observation. I also tried the bidding strategy for 2 rooms through your PRICELINE link with 3 rebid zones, no luck though. 3.5 wharf $85 3.5 pacifica $88 3.5 richmond $92 3.5 sfo north - $94 Link to comment
thereuare
Is there a reason you're not including the other acceptable zones in your 3.5* PRICELINE bidding? If the Civic Center South - South of Market zone is acceptable i see the following that seems to fit within your budget (based upon your bidding above (confirm your dates on the landing page of the link provided below and NOTE that the following is for a 4 nite stay... adding an additional nite i think brings up the Whitcomb for about the same price, but reviews for that one are mixed): 3.5* Civic Center South - South of Market for $93 Business Center Free Internet No Smoking Rooms/Facilities ==> best guess would be the Carriage Inn, should this work for your needs Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. chri521
Good question, slipped my mind... should i start a new bid with lets say Japan town 3.5, then include all the other 3.5 zones plus the rebids if needed ... increasing by a dollar each time since there are so many? chri521
Still think this would be valid, would like to stay under 100$ per room at 3.5 stars minimum for now. 1 Civic Center South - South of Market – detail map 2 Financial District - Embarcadero – detail map 3 Fisherman's Wharf – detail map Best deal 4 Japan Town - Civic Center North – detail map 5 Marina - Lombard Street – detail map 12 South of Market - Moscone Center – detail map 13 Union Square East - Nob Hill – detail map 14 Union Square West – detail map Link to comment
thereuare
There would be no point in bidding up to $100 since there is a 3.5* hotel thru PRICELINE EXPRESS in the Civic Center South - South of Market for $93 (or $94 depending upon whether a 4 nite or 5 nite stay) so any amount over this could result in an overbid. When bidding 3.5* in the San Francisco region you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 3.5* USE, USW, Civic Center South-SOMA, FD, FW, Japan Town, Marina Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone... chri521
All no dice and I guess luckily. I looked up Carriage Inn and the surrounding areas south of market and the reviews paint a not very friendly for young children and older adults picture due to the state of the neighborhood. I guess I will look at 3 stars and above but only in these areas now given the pricing for 3.5 stars is still above 100$ in the non SOMA areas. Budget around $100 still, would rather my family feel safe in the area. 3 Star only has 1 rebid zone correct? 2 Financial District - Embarcadero – detail map 3 Fisherman's Wharf – detail map Best deal 4 Japan Town - Civic Center North – detail map 5 Marina - Lombard Street – detail map 13 Union Square East - Nob Hill – detail map 14 Union Square West – detail map Link to comment
