barryinwbl
Hi, Can you help me with a bidding strategy on Price.line for a stay in Downtown Chicago check-in 10/2/15 check-out 10/4/15. 3 1/2 star (or higher) in any of the downtown zones. I would like to spend under $150 a night if possible. Thank you Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! So we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher then you're willing to pay, what is your maximum bid for a 3.5* or better hotel? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the last expensive 3.5* or better? Also, to avoid any confusion (as 'Downtown' can mean different things to different people depending upon the city), please let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. barryinwbl
Thanks for the response. For price, $150 max in any of the following: Millennium Park, McCormick Place, Magnificent Mile, Lincoln Park. I do not wish to pay more for a 4*. Thank you! Link to comment
AaronJB
Some thoughts: 1. The Lincoln Park area has few hotels and as a result, deals are often better downtown with greater competition. DO visit Lincoln Park - great area. However, I wouldn't really recommend bidding on it unless necessary and it is a trek from downtown. 2. From a tourist standpoint, the McCormick Place-Medical District is something I'd highly recommend not bidding on. You could easily wind up in the middle of nowhere. This zone is really for those who need to be in the Medical District or are going to a convention at McCormick. When you are looking at "downtown" you are really looking at only Mag Mile-RN and Millennium Park-Loop-GP. Is your desired max $150 "all-in" (including taxes/fees) or $150 + taxes/fees? The former is unfortunately going to be somewhat unlikely, but the latter is more realistic. barryinwbl
Aaron, Thanks for the comments. My preference is the two areas you recommend. Perhaps there is a bidding strategy that could start low (everything under $150) that prioritizes Mag Mile and Millennium Park, then add the other two as the bids get rejected. I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks,Barry Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 3.5* in Chicago you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 3.5* NMA... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* Loop... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* NMA and Loop... Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $143 If the above is rejected, you can take this 3.5* hotel in the Loop zone (confirm your dates on the landing page) offer on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $146/nite with: Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center... my guess for this one would be the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown/North Loop. Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
