suntex
Whats the reasonable range to expect when bidding for these dates right now? Ok, wanted to edit the title to include Time Square, Central Park South as well. So its Time Square, Midtown West, and Central Park South. Friend's got a block of rooms at Courtyard but only from 8/7~8/9. So I'm thinking about just bidding myself from 8/6 instead of having to risk changing hotels. Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
You could likely get a 4* hotel in the $120-$140 area. HOWEVER note that the CPS zone has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)... would this be acceptable? If you'd like us to suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow please confirm if we should include/exclude CPS in the bidding, your maximum bid, and if you'd like to first try for a 4* up to your limit (and if rejected then try for a 3.5* hotel) OR if the goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay. suntex
Hmm.. I didn't realize there's a Hudson Hotel as well. I'm travelling with kids this time, so small rooms is probably not a good idea. Can you please provide a bidding strategy without CPS? thanks Link to comment
thereuare
I'm travelling with kids this time... Note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed (a high probability in NYC where most hotels have a higher percentage of rooms with only one bed). While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (or there could be an additional fee, as many NYC hotels consider rooms with two beds an upgrade from 'standard'). If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)... or PRICELINE EXPRESS if a hotel shows a 'Bed Choice' option and one of the options offered will accommodate the needs of your family. Let us know your thoughts, and how many adults/children you need accommodations for, and we will advise according. suntex
That's fine. I'm willing to try PRICELINE first. As I will be bringing a cot for my toddler and will need a crib for the infant anyways. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
Note that not all NYC hotels have cribs onhand and many will not accommodate a crib or an inflatable mattress, let alone both... but the risk is yours to take. ...your maximum bid, and if you'd like to first try for a 4* up to your limit (and if rejected then try for a 3.5* hotel) OR if the goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay. Please let us know the information above and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. thereuare
When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MTW... suntex
sidenote, how much should I expect to pay for something like residence inn central park? Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
Depends what you mean by 'something like'... The Residence Inn Central Park is currently 3* rated by PRICELINE, if you bid for a 3* hotel you could easily receive a property other than the Residence Inn (we don't see this one come up too often). As well, the star rating you choose when bidding on PRICELINE is the minimum that you're willing to accept... your 3* bid could always be upgraded to a higher rated hotel (such as the 4* Hudson hotel, which do to room size you're looking to avoid) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. suntex
Thanks for the heads up residence inn. How about Courtyard Marriot at South Central Park. Do you see it come up more often then? Also, in your experience would two rooms have different outcomes then bidding one room at a time? Thanks Link to comment
suntex
Also, Can you help me identify this PRICELINE EXPRESS deal 3.5* hotel in MIdtown west? Fitness, Business, Restaurant, Free internet. From your list it seems to be Club quarters. But it has two bed choices. Thanks Link to comment
yellowdog
Also, in your experience would two rooms have different outcomes then bidding one room at a time?More than one room is usually not a factor, but it can be. Consider this scenario: Hotel A is offering the lowest rate to PRICELINE but only for one room, Hotel B has a higher rate but is offering four rooms. If you bid for two rooms, the lower priced hotel (Hotel A) is not an option since they are only offering one room and your bid request is for more than one room, so the next lowest priced hotel (Hotel B ) then comes into play. Bottomline is you can't bid on or avoid a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select. Can you help me identify this express deal 3.5* hotel in MIdtown west?Best guess would be Club Quarters Midtown Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. AaronJB
I'm seeing this 3* as $182 - it has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board and with only one very common amenity it's difficult to begin to narrow down. Again though, I'm seeing this for $182 - did you try bidding up to $140, as guided above? suntex
I haven't started bidding. I was shopping around to see if there's anything acceptable before I start bidding. Just want to confirm the two rebidding zones are coney island and Harlem? Also, if I go 5 star would there actually be more rebid zones? Link to comment
thereuare
Yeah. Please give me a strategy to try.I haven't started bidding. I was shopping around to see if there's anything acceptable before I start bidding. Please don't ask for bidding strategies until you're ready to bid as they are based upon current rates offered at the time requested. (same with hotel ID's as they may not be the hotels offered once you're ready to move forward and commit to the trip) Just want to confirm the two rebidding zones are coney island and Harlem?Yes, these are currently your two re-bid zones at the 4 star level, but you should always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked. Also, if I go 5 star would there actually be more rebid zones?Yes, there would be more re-bid zones, but it would also be substantially more expensive. If you are looking to bid 5* what would be your maximum bid at that 5 star level? suntex
Sorry. I didn't realize the strategy would change for bidding due to time. Just how much should I reasonably expect to pay for a 5* at the August time frame in terms of bidding? From what I can tell the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals / HOTWIRE seem to be somewhere between 250~280 per night for 5* right now. Thanks Link to comment

AaronJB
Under $200 is unfortunately unrealistic for a 5* in NYC. I'm seeing what I'm guessing may be the Sofitel for $200 (you may see a slightly different rate) on Hot.wire, which would be a nice option at that price point. Would that be of any interest? suntex
For some reason, when I was typing I got distracted and typed in $174. I was going to type $140.This is the same price that I saw on Priceline Express prior to bidding. I really have to focus more when I am dealing with money. I wrote a check out in spanish instead of english while talking to my carpenter. Wish I was of more help. Thanks for your help! Link to comment
