gibsonj01
Hello BB! I am planning my first trip to NYC for august 16-19th. I would love a hotel ~$100 but I realize I may need to increase that number if I want to stay in the city.(I have also considered staying in NJ as I seen the $100 budget is more friendly but I am not familiar with transportation and what areas are best) I have decided to try price line name your own price. I am open to any zone as long as i can access major attractions by public transportation (central park, times square, statue of liberty, etc) Parking is another issue, I was considering parking in NJ for those days as I seen it is cheaper. Am I better off just staying in NJ or finding parking in the city? Do you have any bidding help/suggestions? Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :)$100 is - unfortunately - very unlikely for these dates. That general price is seen during the slowest periods of the year (around Jan-Mar.) I think you're probably looking at around $125-135 +/- (before taxes/fees) in the city. Parking is definitely not cheap in NYC - you're looking at likely around $50-60+ at hotels per night. What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay for hotel? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
gibsonj01
Hi Aaron! Thank you for the reply. My desired maximum would be $150 before taxes. However, I would have to arrange something cheaper for parking (like parking further away and taking a bus to hotel location)What areas would I be best to look int/bid on with this budget? thereuare
What is the minimum star rating you're willing to accept? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel that is still within this maximum bid OR would you prefer a lesser rated hotel for a lower bid price? Are you willing to pay more for a hotel that is better located OR would you prefer a lower price for something that is less centrally located (ie- still accessible via mass transit, but a longer commute to most sites/locations) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know the information above and we'll advise accordingly. PS- also let us know from what direction you are driving from as we can offer some parking suggestions. gibsonj01
I am not picky about star rating. Ideally 4* is best but I'll go 3* or even 2.5 if hotels are known to be okay within zones at that low end. I would pay more for a hotel that is located within walking distance to some main attractions (central park/times square) I will be driving from Niagara falls area. Link to comment
thereuare
HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the East Village-Lower East Side zone for $144/nite with a 95% recommendation from previous guests and an excellent 4.5/5.0 TA rating: Pet Friendly Fitness Restaurant Business ... best guess for this property would be the Wyndham Garden Chinatown. Would this be of interest and work well for your plans OR do you prefer to try bidding on PRICELINE for a hotel? gibsonj01
That hotel looks very nice and would definitely fit what I am looking for. I do still want to try bidding to see if I can get something a little cheaper in price. Link to comment
thereuare
Which star rating and zones do you want to try for... and given the $144/nite rate at the HOTWIRE offer above, what would you like to use for your maximum bid? gibsonj01
The top zones I would want are mid east, times square, mid west, central park, upper east. My max for these are $140. 3-4* preferred. The other zones I would consider are financial district, soho, lower east side. These I would like to get under $120. 3-4*Finally , empire state, Chelsea, Madison garden and hells kitchen aren't terrible but under 100$ only as they aren't ideally located (I think) 3-4* Link to comment

gibsonj01
Went through the list as described.. No luck. I did see on hotwire two listings one for midtown west $150 and times square $156. Should I post on the other forum for possible hotels? Link to comment
AaronJB
Please keep all posts for this stay within this thread, thanks. If you are seeing Hot.wire listings in the $150's, are you seeing anything on Price.line Express, where you could combine the current 5% coupon? thereuare
My guess for the 3* MTC property would be the Salisbury Hotel.. for the 3.5* Times Square hotel my guess would be The Row NYC downgraded to the 3.5* level since the last time it was reported to the board. gibsonj01
Just an update, I tried bidding to no luck. I've spent the past few weeks looking at HOTWIRE / PRICELINE prices. I found the Shoreham Hotel website has a summer sale. I booking this hotel for $152 a night. It was very comparable to the mystery deals and I was content with knowing exactly where I would be located and the hotel name. Link to comment
AaronJB
Thank you for closing the thread. If this booking can be cancelled, you can use this as a "back-up" and continue searching on PRICELINE and HOTWIRE to see if rates come down and/or new deals are offered. You can also sign up for alerts at RateDrop to let you know if a better deal becomes available. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
