jessicagdelgado
Hi all, I am new to using priceline name your own price deals. I am looking to book a hotel for 3 nights 12/3-12/6 in New York City, either Midtown East or Times Square Area. I would Like 4* or higher. Where should I start bidding? I'm hoping to not go over $225 per night, is that realistic? thanks in advance for the help! Oh and I haven't started bidding at all yet. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Be aware, that seasonally this is one of the most expensive weeks in NYC. Before bidding, note that a few of the 4* hotels in the MTE zone can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? Are MTE and TS the only acceptable zones for this trip? (the more zones you include in your bidding the more hotels you give the opportunity to accept your bid, which should translate into the best/lowest priced deal possible) At current rates i see an opportunity for a 4* hotel in the MTE zone at $230/nite, but odds favor it will be the One UN New York (previously the Millennium UN) which is about a 15 minute walk to the subway... let us know your thoughts on this property/location and we'll take it from there. jessicagdelgado
Thanks for the response! Yes, I am aware this is a pricey time to go to NYC. The main reason we are going is for the tree lighting in Rockefeller center and other such holiday things. I think most of what we want to do is in this area. I really want to stay in these two zones based on the hotel lists that I've seen but perhaps I should add midtown west? I'm definitely ok with a 15 minute walk to a subway. I looked at the reviews for the One UN New York, it looks like a good property based on trip advisor reviews. Link to comment
thereuare
I see an option to (likely) get the ONE UN for $230/nite... do you want to first try bidding on PRICELINE for a lower rate than $230, and if so, do you want to also add MTW to increase your chances (or is the $230/nite rate 'fine' if you're able to get something in MTE and TS zones)? From a location perspective i think MTW would be fine based upon your needs plans for this trip, but ultimately you know your needs and the types of hotels you like best. Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jessicagdelgado
I think I'd like to bid for possibly a lower rate. I'd like to leave out MTW as I'm seeing a few hotels in that area I wouldn't really be happy with. I will probably stick with MTE and Times Square Area. Where should I start my bidding? Thanks. thereuare
When bidding 4* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4* TS... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MTE... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* TS and MTE... Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $225 If the above is rejected i would then take the 4* MTE PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for $242/nite ($230/nite with the current discount link and code in my signature): Indoor Pool Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center ... my guess for this one would be the ONE UN New York. Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. jessicagdelgado
Thanks for your response. I 've tried all of those bids and had no luck. I also researched the One UN New York and am a little uneasy about getting the east tower as the reviews have stated that it has not been renovated and it's not as nice as the west tower. I've been known to sway myself with increasing my budget...so I saw a Times Square 4* hotel in the express deals for $280/night after the 5% discount. Amenities listed:Free Internet in RoomRestaurantBusiness CenterFitness Center Any idea what this one might be? Link to comment
AaronJB
Do keep in mind with reviews in NYC that regular rates are often quite expensive and results in reviews where, understandably, expectations may not have been met. At rates of 30-40-50+% less, they may have felt differently. You're going to find some mixed reviews at most 4* properties in the city. For the 4* in TS, The Marriott Marquis, Renaissance, Row and Mela would be possibilities based on the amenities. I'd definitely lean towards the Row or Mela as being more likely.
