JustDandy
Hi all! New member here. I am a college student needing a hotel room in NYC for a night due to a workshop I'd like to attend. Anyhow, are there any age restrictions set forth by Priceline? I just turned 21 in February, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, do some hotels require you to be 25 or older to check in (some places do this; mostly beaches)? And, if I bid & win a hotel room that you have to be over 25+ for, what happens? Can I get a refund or am I out of luck? Thanks in advance! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Price.line's terms is that you must be at least 21 years old to book a room thru their website, so you shouldn't have any issues. What are the dates of your stay and desired star rating, zone(s), and budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. JustDandy
I am not wanting to be too picky. Dates I'm looking at are 3/28-3/29.Hoping for Chelsea, Empire State Building type of area. Open to other areas though. My conference is on 21st street. Also, I will be arriving and leaving via bus that is on Division Street. So I am trying to find a place not too far from either one. Would like to be able to travel for the most part by walking to help cut down on costs.Budget would be no more than $150 & I am hoping for a 3 star or higher (if I can). Link to comment

JustDandy
I'm not completely sure. It says "10 East 21st Street, New York, NY 10010" is listed as the address. Link to comment
thereuare
The address above is located near multiple subway lines so as long as you're willing to take the subway ($2.50/ride) you would likely be fine in most midtown locations. Do you want to include other acceptable locations in your bidding or start with only Chelsea and ESB? Also, if including other zones, you can likely get a 4* hotel within your budget, do you want to try for a 4* hotel OR do you prefer a lesser priced 3* property? (depending upon the zones you select, if bidding more then just Chelsea and ESB, i think the price difference may only be $5-$15 dollars) Other zones which i think should be convenient for your needs include (traveling via subway): MTE, MTW, TS, MSG Including other zones i think saves you $30-$40/nite (so perhaps better to spend $2.50 per subway ride vs. $40 extra for the room to stay in only one of the two areas you've mentioned above??) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know your thoughts regarding zone and star rating and we'll take it from there. JustDandy
I have never been on the subway, and think it could be a fun time, so that wouldn't really be an issue for me, and it is relatively cheap. So, that's definitely something I would be open to. I would like to try for a 3+ or 4 star if that is realistic. I would be open to any other zones that may be convenient for me. I would most definitely rather pay $2.50 for subway ride vs. $40 extra for a room! haha Link to comment
thereuare
I would like to try for a 3+ or 4 star if that is realistic. So to confirm, MTE, MTW, TS, MSG, Chelsea, and ESB are all acceptable and a maximum bid of $150, i would try as follows: When bidding 4* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MTW, TS, MSG... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MTW, ESB, MTE... Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Chelsea, TS, MSG... Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MSG... Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS... Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, TS... Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, MSG... Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* TS, MSG, Chelsea, ESB, MTE... Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* TS, MSG, Chelsea, ESB, MTW... Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, TS, MSG... Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130 If the above is rejected PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone with: Restaurant Business Center ... this hotel is priced at $136/nite, but using the discount link and code in my signature gives an extra 5% OFF and brings this down to $130/nite and you simply go with this offer. JustDandy
Thanks so much for your help.I actually went ahead last night (before I saw this post) and decided to give it a go. I don't think I quite understood how the rebidding process works with different zones etc. I went up to I think $120 using the zones indicated in one of the previous posts with 3 and 4 star options and didn't get any hits. So, I added the 2 star zone (this is what I'm used to staying in when I go places), and go from there. At any rate. I did end up getting a hotel. Clarion Hotel Park Avenue2 star hotel (despite what I said about wanting a 3 or 4)$98/night (before taxes; about $128 after)Midtown East Area Checked out the going rates online and it seems you can't get anything much cheaper than $163 a night (after taxes) with them; so a savings of $40ish. Might not seem like too much, but it's something. This seems to be the perfect location. Everything is within a 15 minute walk of the location, or so the internet says! Link to comment
