JDHayes Posted March 14, 2014 Report Share Posted March 14, 2014 I'll be traveling to NYC next week (3/20-24) with 5 others (4 rooms total) and would love some bidding advice. My bidding zones are TS, MW, SoHo, ESB, MSG, Chelsea and I prefer them equally. Additionally, I'm looking at 3.5* hotels in these zones and would like to bid at that level. I would love to hit somewhere around $100ish/night, but I know that may not happen. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide. Link to comment

I'm not seeing too much difference in prices between 3.5* and 4* hotels for your dates, so the strategy below is written for the 3.5* hotels, but if you wanted to you could first try the entire strategy at the 4* level, then if rejected close the browser, use a board link to re-access PRICELINE, and then try again at the 3.5* level. Also, i think the $120 area is likely a bit more realistic for a 3.5* or 4* hotel, so i've gone that high in the approach below, but you are of course welcome to stop at whatever price point you are comfortable with. JDHayes Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Share Posted March 17, 2014 Followed your strategy and got the 4* Wyndham New Yorker Hotel for $115.00 (PL upgraded my 3.5* selection to a 4*). I must admit I'm not ecstatic, but I knew going in that an upgrade was possible and I decided to take the risk. Though the location is great, the hotel quality level doesn't seem to be as good as the 3.5* hotels in the zone. However, it is what it is and I'm sure the hotel will work fine for our purposes! thereuare Posted March 18, 2014 Report Share Posted March 18, 2014 This place is an easy walk from your hotel and is worth a stop for a morning breakfast bagel (or as a sandwich for lunch): Best Bagel and Coffee (i know, the name would normally make me stay away, but the place was recommend to me and does indeed have one of the best bagels in the city, imo... i have yet to try their coffee though so i can't vouch for that) 225 W 35th St (between Seventh and Eight Avenues) / north side of the street Do note that they don't have much seating, so if something available you can stay, but if not, you can walk up Seventh Ave towards Times Square and have a seat at one of the tables on the closed off street OR to the bleachers behind the TKTS booth to have a nice outdoor breakfast/lunch) Have a great trip.
