Bachinsky
This is the first time that I am thinking of using either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, as the prices on Expedia seem pretty high right now for these dates. What would you suggest starting at, I would also consider US east as well. Thanks in advance Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Pleas confirm, are your dates April 17-21, a 4 nite stay? What is the best rate you're able to find at Expedia for a 4* hotel in one of these zones? Given this rate, what would be your maximum bid for an 'unknown' 4* hotel in one of these zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Bachinsky
Sorry April21-27(6 nights), and my max would probably be 170 Link to comment
thereuare
We can try, but at current rates i don't think $170 will not likely be enough for a 4* hotel in the Financial District. However, i think it would be more than enough for a 4* hotel in the USE zone... would this zone possibly be acceptable as well? Would you want to include this zone in your initial bidding, or do you prefer to first try for a 4* hotel in the FD zone, then if rejected consider adding USE? Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Bachinsky
i would be willing to go up to 190, and would prefer to try fd first and then USE after. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 4* in San Francisco you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc) Select 4* Financial District... Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4... Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone5... Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Financial District and re-bid zone6... Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3... Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone4... Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone5... Bid $190 Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected post back and we'll revise to include the USE zone. Bachinsky
Ok will do, for the USW on PRICELINE if it is showing a 4.5 star what would this be? Link to comment
thereuare
There is currently no 4.5* bidding offered in the USW zone. Bachinsky
Whoops sorry, I meant USE Link to comment
Bachinsky
These bids were rejected so I am thinking maybe USE or USW, any thoughts on the strategy and lowering the price from the financial district? Link to comment
Bachinsky
4 star express deal USE I am looking at April 21-27th PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, showing $137 for a "deep discount historic queen" with amenities of pets, restaurant, and business center. Any idea what hotel this is? Link to comment
yellowdog
Please keep all posts in the same thread since posts are for the same stay. Best guess would be Sir Francis Drake, a Kimpton Hotel. Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and hot.wire links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. Yellowdog. Link to comment
Bachinsky
Thanks can you send me a bidding strategy for USE or USW with max bid of 150. Link to comment
thereuare
If there is a 4* hotel in the USE zone on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $137/nite, less the 5% discount link and code in my signature gives an additional 5% OFF (bringing this room rate to $130/nite)... why would you bid as high as $150 for a 4* hotel in this zone (when you can just as easily purchase a 4* hotel in this zone for $130)?? If you want to try bidding on PRICELINE (but with a maximum bid of $130 or less) is the Financial District still acceptable and should be included in your bidding? Even if you don't think you'll be successful in that zone, if it's still an acceptable location, including more zones will give you more bidding opportunities which in turn gives you the ability to make more bids and increase your bid amounts in smaller increments. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know your thoughts on the above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Bachinsky
I had seen this PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, the only issue was I am pretty certain it is Francis Drake and this would be my last choice thought i would have a better chance getting a different one. I am totally good with the FD Link to comment
thereuare
You could just as easily receive the Francis Drake and overbid for it, just compounding the disappointment. Do you still want to include USE, USW, and FD in your bidding and bid up to $150? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Bachinsky
I take your point, do you know how often the express deals change up? Yes please, include all three in the search and put the max bid at 140. Link to comment
AaronJB
There is no set period in which the deals change. You could see the same ones from now until your stay or they can change tomorrow, there's no way to know. It's all about the amount of discounted inventory that the hotel wants to offer to the service and there's no way to know how much inventory the hotel is going to offer or how fast it will move. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment

Bachinsky
Trying to identify a 4 * PRICELINE EXPRESS deal from April 21-27 for 167, showing pets and is in USE and a guest rating of 8+. Any ideas? Link to comment
Bachinsky
I thought I may have some more success on HOTWIRE if I split up my trip into 2 SOMA Moscone and FD ID hotel April 21-24 - I am seeing a 4.5 star for 210 (CAD) with 90% approval with pool, business center, fitness center, resturant and pet friendly April 21-27 - in the FC I am seeing a 4.5 star for 223 (CAD) with 95% approval, fitness and business center, and restaurant Any ideas? thereuare
Is PETS ALLOWED the only amenity showing, as i'm not seeing any 4* hotel in the USE zone for $167/nite when searching for your dates above. thereuare
At this point in time we will keep all posts for this trip in this thread. If you ultimately decide to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (or it becomes more evident that is the route you will likely take) we will start a new topic for one leg of your stay at that time. Please start by changing the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase. Using the method above what is the room rate per nite in US Dollars? Are you willing to pay $200+ per nite for this trip... as previously you were only willing to bid up to $150/nite?? What are you gaining by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID... as there is a 4* hotel offered for your complete stay in the Financial District for $223/nite (as well as other properties previously asked about above that are substantially cheaper than those of the SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID above) Have you tried any of the previous bidding strategy above thus far? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
