Priceline Hotel: 4* San Francisco (San Mateo) Marriott

I've bid 3 times using the strategy suggested and have been rejected each time.

$40 - 4* in San San Mateo Area -> Rejected

$45 - 4* Added South SF -> Rejected

$50 - 4* Added Civic Center -> Rejected

And on my 3rd and final rebid I plan on trying...

$55 - 4* by adding Cathedral Hill

I have one more free re-bid and since we are checking in this Saturday I don't want to bid too low and get rejected again because I don't have the luxury of waiting 72 hours to try bidding again.

So I have a question about how priceline knows who you are when enforcing the rebidding rules in case I get rejected on my 3rd and final re-bid.

It is true you can't deselect a region once you've selected it. But just go back to www.savingsbarn.com and reaccess Priceline. You start off clean again, with no zones selected.

The idea of the permutation strategy is that you can "build up" a Priceline bid. You can bid zone A, zones AB, zones AC and then zones ABC on Priceline even though your AB bid and AC bid are effectively an ABC bid too. It is built into Priceline's system and within their TOS.

You cannot "build down" a Priceline bid. Once you bid zones ABC, you can't bid AB, AC or A. You can only "build up".

In short, if you need to deselect a zone, you need to start the whole process over.

My 4th bid was finally accepted at $53 and we got the 4* Marriott in San Mateo where we wanted to be. Here is how it played out...

Bid $40 - 4* in San San Mateo Area -> Rejected

Bid $45 - 4* Added South SF -> Rejected

Bid $50 - 4* Added Civic Center -> Rejected

Bid $53 - 4* Added Cathedral Hill -> ACCEPTED

San Mateo Marriott Sfo Airport (4*)

Check-In Date: Saturday, October 29, 2005

Check-Out Date: Sunday, October 30, 2005

But I'm not sure I completely understand the "permutation Stategy"... can anyone give me a full example so I understand it for future bidding? Thanks!

permutation Stategy for 3 free rebids.

Zone A is the one you want to be in.

Zone B free rebid area.

Zone C free rebid area.

Zone D free rebid zone.

Start by bidding zone A , The zone you want to be in.

add zone B = A + B

Close browser start new bid with zone A + C

Close browser start new bid with zone A + D

Close browser start new bid with zone A + B + C

Close browser start new bid with zone A + B + D

Close browser start new bid with zone A + B + C + D

This gives you 7 rebids instead of 3.
