I'm not currently seeing this property offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children?

What is the room rate per nite?

I'd also caution against a 1* star hotel, especially one that has a 25% recommendation from previous HOTWIRE guests.

Yes, still seeing the $61 per night. 2 adults, 4 nights.

And yes I am also cautious, but have had very little luck or finding anything reasonable for that time period, so becoming slightly desperate (a bad way to bid, I know).

This may be something like the Sonoma Inn or similar, which gets very bad reviews. What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? We may be able to suggest other options within your desired budget.

This property has not yet been reported to the board (we see very few 1* hotel purchases on the board as it can be very risky when buying a hotel 'sight unseen'). What do you consider to be 'reasonable' for this trip and your maximum room rate per nite?

Since this an multi-nite stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay.

Great suggestion as far as "looking behind the curtain" as well!

Was really looking to be below $400 with "taxes, title and tags" for the 4 nights: Had lots of unsuccessful bids in San Francisco (Financial District-Embarcadero); San Francisco (SOMA - Moscone Center); San Francisco (Union Square East) and San Francisco (Union Square West - Nob Hill) maxing out at $88.

I guess I am somewhat "tainted" by my success (reported to the board) of my last 2 visits, even though according to the SF Convention calendar, there isn't anything "major" in town 10/24-28:

There is an 11K person conference starting on 10/28 so that may be increasing rates for the last nite of your stay if some attendees arrive the nite before, and some may even arrive the Friday before in order to enjoy the weekend in San Francisco.

The hotel market has been picking up over the last few years and we are generally seeing higher year-over-year rates, although i think the issue for your dates above or is more likely do to higher demand for your dates rather than just higher prices in general. There could also be parades, protests, marches, rallies, etc. taking place that would have an effect on hotel rates but not show up on a convention calendar.
