jicms
HiI'd really like advice on bidding for five nights, preferably 3* and any central Manhattan zones. Quite flexible as I've never been to NY before! Hotwire's prices are showing $200 upwards for 2*. Am I likely to significantly better this with Priceline? Many thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
You may be able to get a 4* for $200... are you looking for the highest rated hotel that your budget will allow OR are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better for this trip?Is a very small room (150 sq. ft.) acceptable? Is a 15 minute walk to the subway acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. jicms
OK, probably $200 a night max including taxes so maybe we should go for a 3 or 3.5*. Breakfast included would be great which usually only comes with lower star ratings and presumably never included with Priceline. We're happy to do a lot of walking but need room to walk around two open cases. I think this is fine for the bedroom but would the bathroom be included in this?! We like buzzy areas. Link to comment
AaronJB
A couple of notes:1. Breakfast is not included at many hotels in NYC and a number of them aren't seen that often on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. However, if you bid, there's definitely no guarantee of breakfast. If you use HOTWIRE or PRICELINE Express, you can look for a listing that notes breakfast as an amenity.2. NYC rooms are VERY small on average - as noted 150sq ft is not uncommon, even at the 3.5-4* level. The majority of rooms in NYC are small or very small. Again though, if you use PRICELINE Express or especially HOTWIRE, you can have a better sense of at least some of the possibilities or which hotel it may possibly be. If you bid on PRICELINE for a 4* in MTE, for example, you have to be willing to accept ANY 4* in the zone.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. thereuare
If the hotel offers breakfast as a 'standard' amenity of the hotel, then PRICELINE / HOTWIRE guests are also entitled to free breakfast (if it's a special package or room rate that offers breakfast then it is not included in PRICELINE / HOTWIRE bookings)While free breakfast is always a nice perk, it is not really as necessary in NYC as you can usually find a very cheap or inexpensive breakfast... if you just want to put food in your belly you can get cofee and a bagel/donut from a car for $$1.50-$2.00... or many of the corner luncheonette/salad bar/pay by the pound hot food places offer a cheap hot breakfast, such as a plate of eggs and bacon OR a egg sandwich with coffee for $3-$4. (it's counter service but many place have seating upstairs/downstairs)Based upon the previous reply and the information above, let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
