duffys73
We are wanting to stay at the El Conquistador April 28 - May 3. Our concern is that with a Priceline bid we'll end up at the Gran Melia instead. From other reviews, it seems like Gran Melia is having bed bug problems, so we really don't want to end up there. Any suggestions on bidding? If we bid a higher amount- say the $160 range are we more likely to end up with the El Conquistador or Las Casitas? Just not sure how the Priceline system works. Thanks! yellowdog
Welcome to BetterBidding! You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You need to be willing to stay at any * or higher in the zone you're bidding at.If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. Please read this link: Don't bid higher for a specific hotel And please take some time to read boards FAQ so you understand the basics with PRICELINE and HOTWIREI wouldn't worry about any "bug problem" at this hotel. Looks like the recent TA "bug review" is without any substance.Let us know your thoughts and we'll go from there.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB
As noted above, definitely don't bid higher to try and get a particular property - it is possible for a bid to be accepted at higher than the retail price for the hotel. Are you seeing any HOTWIRE listings of interest? You can find the HOTWIRE properties that have been reported to the board here: Hotwire Hotel List Puerto Rico. If you need assistance confirming a listing, please provide the zone, price, star rating, date/s and full list of amenities showing with the listing (click "see details" and then click "see all amenities" to see the complete list.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. duffys73
Thanks. When I look at Hotwire, I'm thinking it's the Gran Melia not the El Conquistador. It's 4 stars, $99 - indicates that it's regularly $141. thereuare
The El Conquistador has previously been seen with this amenity set so that would be my best guess for this one... why do you think this one is more likely the Gran Melia? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. duffys73
Two things made me think it was the Gran Melia. I understand that the El Con has closed its casino. Also, a regular price of $141 seemed too low for it. I'd love for it to be the El Con,though. Link to comment
thereuare
I wasn't aware of the casino closing, thanks for letting me know... apparently the Gran Melia may have closed theirs as well. With this new information i think this property may be the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa and that would be my new guess. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
