Priceline Hotel: NYC 11/10-12

We will be in NYC to visit St Johns University 11/10-12. I prefer to stay in Midtown because I'm familiar with the area and I like that area. I really can't afford to pay over $200/night and it will be me and my son so we really need 2 beds but could make a queen work I guess. Any suggestions or bidding strategies? Thanks! :D

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy so this could mean one bed, and it might not necessarily be a Queen. In most (US) locations a one bedded room would have a Queen or King, but in some cities where real estate is expensive and space is at a premium, it could mean one double bed.

You could take the risk and bid on PRICELINE and hope for a room with two beds OR a room with at least a Queen sized bed... OR you could use HOTWIRE and search for 2adults/1child which would ensure separate sleeping accommodations for you and your son, although the second 'bed' could be a rollaway brought into the room OR a pullout sofabed.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly, although i'll add that based upon rates available at this moment i don't see your budget of $200/nite being any problem.

I used your HOTWIRE link and see a 4* Midtown East area hotel for $153 on Hotwire (please let me know if I should relocate this to the hotwire board) with the following amenties, restaurant, business center, high speed internet access. Do you think this is the Kimberly Hotel or Helmsley NY?? Thanks!

The Helmsley New York is now the Westin New York Grand Central and this would be my best guess for this property, but will add that with so few amenities (and common ones at that), it's difficult to have too much confidence in this guess.

If you do book this, i would do so as 2adults/2children (the price remains the same) but booking your stay for 4 will slightly improve your chances of getting two beds in the room vs. booking for 3.

Ughhhhh, I am going to have to ponder this a few days. I might come back for a bidding strategy for PL. Thanks for that tip about the occupancy!

Thru some further research i'll add that One UN New York would be a possibility as well, although i think the Westin is the more likely of the two.
