xenolalia
When I put airfare (MSQ-GVA) together with a search for a Geneva airport, the first listing last night was the Movenpick ($910). When I try a hotel search by itself, the most expensive hotel shows up for $150 and I can't tell if it is the Movenpick although this is what I paid for the Movenpick in Stuttgart two weeks ago but the Movenpick web wants to charge me close to $300 a night (GVA). When I try to search for just airfare (MSQ-GVA), Hotwire will not give me a price but wants me to use partners so I can't tell how much they are charging for the Movenpick in the original search that combined airfare with the hotel.Another complication is that I am flying a friend from MSQ to GVA and when I use Hotwire, I would like to simply get one airline ticket and two rooms but that apparently is not possible. On the other hand, I could purchase the airline ticket with the Movenpick, but then I don't know how to separately confirm that I can get another room at the Movenpick for a good price.Advice would be most welcome. xenolalia
The 120 Euro price for the Movenpick at STR was given me at the front desk when I walked into the hotel not expecting to spend the night at STR. Aeroflot would not let me board my STR flight to MSQ through SVO so I lost a day of travel and had to start with trains the next morning. Earlier that morning a friend explained that the STR Movenpick had a special weekend rate and he did even better by going through Expedia. I asked the front desk to give me my friend's rate but 120 Euros was the best the would do for me.Thanks for your response and yes, I will remember to link to HOTWIRE / PRICELINE from this board. xenolalia
I have not had occasion to look at Hotwire and Priceline of late, but I now see something on Expedia that I missed before. I don't have to provide housing on most of my trips so I am 'out of practice'.I noticed, however, that Expedia has this special rate page where they do not name hotels. The top one looks a lot like the one on Hotwire. Expedia puts the hotel as 5 star which makes me think this is the Movenpick which is the same impression I had of the Hotwire listing where the save the hotel 4.5 starts.Am I getting closer to a decent price on the Movenpick or is a false trail? xenolalia
The HOTWIRE rating is 4 1/2 stars with this description: airport shuttle, fitness center, restaurant(s), business center, nearby tennis, laundry facility, high-speed internet and then 3 notes about accessible access. Hotwire says that 4 1/2 star hotels include Our 4.5-star hotels include: Sofitel Hotels, Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, and other brand-name and independent hotels. The special Expedia page gives the hotel 5 stars with this description: airport shuttle, fitness center, restaurant(s), business center, nearby tennis, laundry facility, high-speed internet with the same 3 additional references to accessible features.Clearly both Hotwire and Expedia have the same hotel in view and if I knew it was the Movenpick for $150 a night, I would take it. I wonder if Movenpick is the only 5 star hotel at the airport? Link to comment

xenolalia
Both Expedia and HOTWIRE name the following as additional amenities: accessible path of travel, in-room accessibility, accessible bathroom.Going back to these pages, I noticed that HOTWIRE says this facility charges a resort fee of $5 per person "regardless of how the room is booked". Expedia does mention that a resort fee might be charged.Am I still missing a piece of the puzzle? Link to comment
thereuare
The Expedia Unpublished Rates are 'powered by HOTWIRE' but i have seen instances where the two use a different star rating for the same hotel. However, i can't say if the hotel you're seeing on Expedia is the Movenpick or not as we don't see a lot of reports thru Expedia's opaque service. The $5 'resort fee' could be the city tax of CHF 4.75 (~$5US) if it is paid directly to the hotel for HOTWIRE purchases. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. xenolalia
Thanks for the replies. The following note is for my benefit and anyone else trying to get through this kind of maze.I went back to asking Hotwire to buy an airline ticket and a hotel. I noticed this time that when the Movenpick comes up, that Hotwire gives it a rating of 5 stars. Also the detailed description of the Movenpick is copied below. Anyway, it makes me doubt that the $150 a night room is at the Movenpick (I get this rate but no higher rate only when searching for hotels alone) but since I can't separate out the airfare with certainty, I don't know what they are charging for the Movenpick. Clearly they are charging at least $150 a night but it is more likely that they are charging a bit over $200 a night (and $400 for airfare)which would match the rate that Movenpick offers on their web. However, I don't know what to make of the fact that when I combine airfare with hotels at the airport that Hotwire does not show another 5 star hotel, but does shows 3 with 4 stars including the Crowne Plaza and the NH Geneva Airport.ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONSTo make requests for specific accessibility needs, complete the “Special or Accessibility Requests” section of “Trip Preferences” when you book your hotel.Accessible bathroomAccessible path of travelIn-room accessibilityPROPERTY AMENITIESConveniently located in the business district, close to the train station and the university, the 20-storey Moevenpick Hotel & Casino Geneve is the right accommodation whether traveling to second-most-populous city of Switzerland on business or on leisure.24-hour front deskAir-conditioned public areasNumber of floors - 14Parking limited (surcharge)Rooftop terraceLuggage storageShow all property amenities ROOMSGuestrooms at Moevenpick Hotel & Casino Geneve feature an individually controlled heating and cooling system.
