Priceline Hotel: Help with 5* bidding strat. on Strip 10/5 to 10/7

I'm new to this so bear with me...

I am planning a trip to Vegas in October (5th to 7th) with my wife. I have never been to Vegas before and would like to stay in a 5* on the strip. I have no preference for Hotel so north or south strip is fine with me. I won't mind staying at the Trump or Vbada(or any other hotel people seem to avoid) because I have never been and don't mind trying them out atleast once in my lifetime (unless there is a REALLY obvious reason for most people not wanting to stay there).

I have visited Hotwire and see that a 5* is currently available for those dates for $122 per night which i have concluded to be the Trump (no casino).

I have read that there are 11 re-bid zones in Vegas but I dont want to accidently re-bid in a zone I am not willing to stay in so I would like to know if there is a chance I might get stuck with another 5* that would not be near the strip. I guess my question is: Where are the re-bit zones and where are the zones I should NOT use to re-bid(if any).

Also, considering the trump is going for $122 per night, that will be my maximum I am willing to spend. So where should I start the bidding at? My guess was $80 with 2$ increments up to $122.

I would like to know if everything I have posted here makes sense or is there anything im missing? I really dont want to get stuck in a hotel somewhere remote. Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Note that the above is a contradiction, as the Trump is not located on the strip, and if it's your first time in Vegas, i would recommend staying on the strip.

However, it becomes a matter of price vs. convenience, as a 5* hotel directly on the strip will cost you more than $125/nite for these weekend dates (at the moment likely closer to $145-$165). If your budget is not flexible you can likely get a 4* hotel for about this price, but not sure if your priorities are with location or highest rated hotel.

As near as I can tell from a Google map, the Trump is under a 1/2 mile from the Las Vegas Boulevard (the "strip"). Different people have different definitions of "walking distance", so I'll leave that part up to you.

There are quite a few reviews of the Trump in the Hotel Review area at the very end of this site. And more on www.tripadvisor.com.

It's an easy walk to the Wynn at the North end of the strip, and you can cut thru the Fashion Show Mall to easily get to Treasure Island, but if you're heading anywhere mid-strip and South it becomes a bit more of a 'hike'. It's certainly do-able, and easier to do in October than in July when it's 100+ degrees, but in Vegas most prefer to be in the middle of the action and be able to casino hop from one property to the next (even if not gambling and just for the sightseeing purpose of hotel hopping)

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Brainstew,

I've been bidding for 5* hotels that weekend (10/5 through 10/8) -- no luck thus far. I've bid up to $160 on the North Strip and $137 on the South Strip.

Hotwire has the Trump at $107 for the long weekend and the Vdara at $157.

The Venetian (North Strip) has an offer for ~ $180/night (before taxes).

I found the MGM Signature listed as a "mystery" hotel on another website for $127/night (before taxes).

Good luck

Still looking for something at a good price though.

'Good price' is relative... i've posted above what i think it would currently cost, is this 'good'? What would be your maximum bid?
