Welcome to BetterBidding!

Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? If the former, did you want to bid up to your $120 limit before lowing your star rating to 3.5* (and then to 3*)?

To avoid any confusion, please list all the zones you're willing to accept at each star level? Did you include 'Downtown' in your previous bidding above?

Lastly, note that when bidding 3.5* and lower:

MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?

CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Wow thanks so much for the info, so I'll do up to $120 for a 4*, are they all good unlike the 3* hotels you outlined? The 15min walk would be somewhat unacceptable, if I'm paying so much to stay in Manhattan, I'd prefer to be close to everything, subway included; otherwise, I'd rather be next to a subway in Williamsburg instead of 15 min away from a subway !

As far as prices, I was thinking up to $120 for a 4* and up to $100 for a 3.5* (and not including MTE and CPS then); what do you think of all this?

We'll provide a strategy for whatever you'd like, but at current prices i think your expected budget will fall short.

At current rates, for a 4* hotel i think you'll need to be closer to $165-$185 and for a 3.5* closer to the $145-$165 range.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed, and to avoid any confusion, please list all acceptable zones by PRICELINE name at each star level.

I saw some people getting hotels for $95-$100, you think I have no chance doing the same because of the multiple days I'm staying?

Using the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins i don't see any wins for these dates, or even a sub-set of these dates, in the $95-$100 price range... are the wins you referring to for your same dates?

Hey, not referring to the same dates, I just saw other posts on the board and people had 3.5* and 4* hotels for $95-$110

For example, look at 7/19.

I heard July is really a slow season but maybe it's because these people bid for just one day and maybe because I'm trying to do 5 consecutive days. Should I try to see what happens if I split it up in 3 days and 2 days?

Ok let me give some more options, so I've decided 7/7-7/12 I will be there, but I can extend and shorten it, so sometime flexible, but I definitely want to go 7/7. I'm flying out from NYC to Berlin sometime near 7/12 but want at least 5 days there as I'm meeting up with the girlfriend :)

But let me get to the point. I've been to New York 3 times already, 3 weeks at a time everytime, I'm familiar with the city. I'm not even so fond of staying in Time Square as it is so touristy but it would be very nice to be in the city and close to everything. I am starting to be a little open to staying in Jersey or Brooklyn or Astoria if the hotel is nice and the transportation options are widely available.

Regardless, I'll still try to do a 3.5*-4* for max $110, I'll split the dates to see if I can get a deal, but I'm guessing you're probably right, I'm really low-balling. It just kills me to spend so much on a hotel when I will be going back to Germany soon and for the same amount of money, I can live like a KING for $75 a night. But I know, it's new york.

I'll re-phrase...

Using the search box on the top right of this page enter 'New York City' and your dates, then click the 'GO' button. On the ensuing page, which of the zones are you willing to accept? (please list them using the same zone names that PRICELINE uses)
