Priceline Hotel: Question about NYC bidding zones

I'm coming to NYC in October for a conference. The conference is located close to Radio City Music Hall. My question is this - how safe are the bidding zones close to this location? Specifically, I'm looking to bid in the following zones: Central Park South, Midtown West, Times Square - Theatre District, Midtown East, MSG - Convention Area, Empire State Bldg, and Chelsea Area. I'll be looking for a 4* or above. Would anyone recommend I not bid in a particular zone? My wife will be attending with me and will probably do some shopping while I'm working, so I just want to make sure she's in a safe area.

Thanks in advance.

All of those areas are safe these days. If your wife is interested in a shopping trip, Midtown East and Upper East Side would be great and there are also plenty of restaurants. Everything is easy to get to via subway and taxi from all of the areas that you have mentioned.

Agree with the above - I particularly like MTE, which is a very nice area and convenient. TS arguably the most popular, but it is also expensive and crowded.

If you would like assistance with your stay, please provide the date/s of travel and desired budget. October - unfortunately - can be busy/expensive.

Thank you for your prompt replies!! I'll be arriving on Sunday, 9/30 and departing on Thursday 10/4. I'd really like to stay under $250/night (before taxes). I'm not sure if this is reasonable, but that would be my preference. 4* or above.

Thanks for your help!!

All of the zones you mention should be fine in terms of safety (as in any city be aware of your surroundings, although NYC is generally pretty safe if you're not looking for trouble or flashing money and/or jewelery) and for the average tourist, but Chelsea may make it slightly inconvenient to get to your conference (if you're traveling by subway) as you would most likely require a transfer or a 'moderate' walk once outside of the subway (i'm assuming your conference may be at the Hilton New York??)

Let us know if you we should include Chelsea in the bidding or not.

I think your $250 budget gives you a 50/50 chance... certainly a shot, but by no means a sure thing (if not, you're likely not too far away... another $10-$20 would likely suffice).

Just to confirm before I start bidding....

I have the seven re-bid zones are:

(1) Coney Island

(2) Long Island City

(3) Lower East Side

(4) MSG - Convention Area

(5) Morningstar Heights - Harlem

(6) Queensborough Bridge

(7) Upper East Side

Yes, those check out as free re-bids at the 4* level. But do recheck each day before a bidding session. Hotels can get upgraded, new hotels can be offered, boundaries can be changed, ???.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just an update....no luck yet. I've followed the bidding suggestions up to $265/night but no luck. Not a big deal, I'm still 3 months away from our trip so hopefully I can get something as my travel dates get closer.

Thanks again for all the suggestions/advice.

Will post when/if I win something.
