Lunia2000
Thanks for the great site. I've been trying to 2 weeks to book a decently priced room in Chelsea area, slowly creeping up my bid with no success. I clicked through the HOTWIRE link here to compare prices, and today I saw a 4 star in Chelsea pop up. I compared it to what people had gotten on here and with the Hotwire list and was about 80% confident that the Doubletree would be the hotel. I hit submit and got the Doubltree for $159 a night. $583 total for 3 nights. Link to comment

Lunia2000
If you are looking for just a place to crash, then I would recommend this hotel. This nowhere near qualified as a 4* hotel. Let's start off with the good:Location: The hotel is located at 6th/7th and 29th. You are a short walk from Times Square and Penn Station. Catching a cab is as easy as walking over to 7th if headed Downtown or over to 6th if headed Uptown.Staff: The hotel staff were very friendly while checking in, and the concierge was knowledgeable and helpful.Rooms: The beds were very comfortable with nice pillows and comfortable sheets. We stayed on a VERY low floor and weren't bother by any street noise. The Bad:Room Access: There are 27 floors in the hotel and only two elevators. These elevators are used by both staff, housekeeping, and guests. You WILL wait and you will wait up to 15 mins or more. If you are on a lower floor like we were and think you would take the stairs you will be disappointed. There is no stair access from the lobby. The stairs exit only to the front of the building, and don't have keycard access. You can walk down and exit, but you can't go up.Rooms: The rooms are small even by NYC standards, but passable. The issue is sound. The walls are thin, and every time someone opens a door or closes a door you hear it from both above and below.Amenities: One day we did not have hot water. The hot water was back the 2nd day, but then the cable went out. We were given the run around and told just an hour for it to be back on. We spend the last two nights without cable, even local channels. This was mostly annoying the last night when we just wanted to rest our legs, enjoy some cold beers, and chill before an early departure. The cable never was back on by the time we left. After reading some reviews on other sides, the water and cable issues seem to be a regular thing. Totally unacceptable for a 4* hotel.Housekeeping: They will come in your room even with the DND sign out, and the door locked. They are VERY persistent, and will be cleaning rooms and halls ALL day. Get used to hearing the vacuums and dodging carts.Pricing: Even after I get a hotel bid I always keep checking the rates out of curiosity. This hotel rapidly reduces rates as your stay date gets closer. I could have booked this hotel 2 days before my stay for LESS than what I paid on Hotwire. Your mileage might vary, but their rates are very unstable.OverallI would recommend a stay here if you are going to be out on the town 99% of the day and evening, and the price is about what I paid. Go in expecting a 3* stay but with some small 4* perks. If this is your first time in NYC, it is in a good location for getting around due to ease of getting cab, taking the N/R/1 lines, or catching a cross town bus. Link to comment
