I was looking for a room in the city from 9/1/05 to 9/5/05. Realistically, there's nothing cheap on Manhattan, so I decided to go for Jersey City. Only one zone for quick access into the city and that is Jersey City. Strategy was to make a 3* bid, then if unsuccessful increasing bid and lowering quality to 2.5*. 3* likely to be Hyatt/Doubletree, 2.5* to be Courtyard. All very good value hotels, good reviews on tripadvisor, slight inconvenience in terms of travel time, but potentially big savings through Priceline.

Been trying for the past few weeks for these dates at $40, $45. After lock out then $50, $55.... up to $90. No success for the four nights requested. Price jump noticed on Expedia for Saturday night, so decided to split dates. Same strategy, separate bids for 2 nights at a time. Quick success for first two nights. First bid 3* at $55 failed. Follow up bid 2.5* at $60 was successful with a Priceline 'upgrade' to 3* Hyatt. Best price now is $165 off Expedia, 64% savings. Extremely happy with result.

No success so far on the next two nights sought, 9/3/05 to 9/5/05. Even tried splitting to single nights without any lucks. Bidding to date up to $90 for 2.5*. I have a backup reservation at the Courtyard Jersey City for those two nights. Will keep trying and post if successful.

WOW! Haven't seen this rate in quite some time!

Nice to see the Hyatt this low again and hopefully we'll see more if it at this rate, but not sure at this point if this is here to stay or this is just an 'outlyer'.

The Hyatt is sold-out for the nite of the 4th so you may want to keep an eye on that specific date to see if availability opens up (rooms are available for the 3rd-5th, but not for the sole nite of the 4th).

Not sure of how you booked your back-up, but a reminder to everyone that this board is an affiliate of the Marriott (as well as most other hotel chains) so please check our SUPPORT PAGE when making your hotel-direct and back-up reservations.
