Priceline Hotel: Need help - Vegas strip 6/9 - 6/12

Hello,

I am new to the hotel bidding world and have heard about this site from my sister who is a avid fan. I am traveling to Vegas for the weekend of 6/9-6/12 and through some research I found that there is a MMA fight 6/9 that is inflating the costs of hotels all around the strip stretching to Henderson. Ideally we wanted to stay on the strip for all 3 nights but the Saturday stay is killing our budget. Could you provide some advice on the following questions?

1) The cost of stay Sun-Tues drops significantly so we are willing to bid for a lower end hotel for Saturday and then move to the strip on Sunday. Can you provide any links or information on surrounding hotels off the strip that is close enough to walk?

2) After much research I found that a 3* hotel for Saturday night is averaging about $200 a night, give or take $50. Would a budget of $120 before taxes and resort fees be reasonable or do I need to go higher?

3) For Sun-Tues I found the hotels to drop as low as $74 a night for a 4* and $147 for a 5*. If I wanted to win a bid at $60 and $99 respectively where should I start?

I've read the re-bidding forum extensively so that I don't make a mistake. My only concern was when I read an article there was an update at the end where the bidder was placed at a resort outside his desired area because he chose a 4* and Henderson which did not have a 4* but a resort. This terrified me a little because I can not risk being stuck out at Henderson. Can you please address how I can avoid this? Article below:

Looking forward to a great bid win!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please keep all posts for the same leg of your stay in the same thread. We will use this thread for the Saturday nite, 6/9, of your stay... if the HOTWIRE properties above are for 6/10-6/12 then please start (one) NEW TOPIC for that leg of your trip (if those hotels are appearing for your complete stay then we'll keep them here)

For Saturday nite, you're not going to find a hotel outside of the Strip North, Strip North Vicinity or Strip South zones that is a 'reasonable' walk to the Strip (other than the Westin, which is $200+ for this Saturday nite). Even if you could identify one, there would be no way to target such a hotel when using PRICELINE or HOTWIRE since you could receive any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you bid. For this nite i think you're going to need to resolve to either take a taxi to the strip, increase your budget, and/or lower your star rating. What i'm guessing is the Stratosphere can be had for ~$135/nite but it's not really what most people think of when they refer to the "the strip" and the area surrounding the hotel is not that great.

If you've never been to Vegas before you could also consider staying Downtown for the first nite, then head to the main part of the strip for the remaining two nites of your stay. From downtown you could take the public bus in order to get the strip if you wanted to go there your first nite, as well, from the airport you could take a shared shuttle to Downtown which (which would help save on taxi fare since it can get a bit more expensive to get to Downtown via taxi)

Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there.

Thank you for helping me learn how to post on this website, I'm still trying to learn all the rules. The above 2 stays are for 6/10-6/12 only, I will post this in a separate thread. Am I supposed to keep Priceline and Hotwire separate or can I start one thread if I'm working with both sites? If I am able to start a single thread please let me know which board to post to.

We are ok with staying off the strip for Saturday 6/9 but do not want to stay downtown. I have been to Vegas many times but I normally travel with my husband who has hotel comps so I never really had to book my own place. We are thinking of renting a car or cabbing it for the first day and then staying on the strip for the remaining days. Ideally we would like to stay within 3-4 miles of the strip but whatever we get at a low rate will be great.

At what price do you think I should start bid at on the Saturday stay? Would love to keep it as close to $130. If I need to drop down to 3* that would be ok too.

As long as for the same stay/dates, please keep all posts, whether PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, in the same thread (makes it easier for us to see what has already been considered thru both services). You can post in either section (priceline or hotwire) and if a hotel is ultimately purchased thru the 'other' service we'll simply move the entire thread to that section of the board once a hotel is won.

If you look at the zone boundaries on the PRICELINE map (use the search box on the top right of this page which will take you directly to the page with the map on it) which zone(s) would be accepable? What would be your minimum star rating for this nite? Would something like the Stratosphere be acceptable? For a bit more than your current budget (perhaps ~$150) something like the Trump may be possible... but keep in mind there is also a Resort fee on top of the room rate (as there is at many/most Las Vegas properties these days... especially at the high end)

Let us know the above and we'll research further.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Thank you, I will start a new thread for my sun-tues stay.

Looking at the priceline map we would like to try for the east side of the strip as well as the south of strip, 4*. I understand resort fees may apply at check-in but was hoping to get the base cost between $110-$130 so overall cost would be $150ish. Trump and the stratosphere is not a desirable location but will consider once all options are exercised.

Would you help me ID the following hotel I found on hotwire?

Dates: 6/9 - 6/10 - $116.00 per room, per night

Does not show resort fees

Best guess for the HOTWIRE property above is the South Point... would this work for your needs or do you want to try PRICELINE? If looking at PRICELINE, does "east side of the strip" mean ony the 'near Strip East' zone or did you also want to include the Convention Center zone?

I had a feeling that might be South Point but wanted a second opinion. I will definitely consider that hotel if my bids fail.

I apologize about the vague descriptions, for some reason I thought I had the wording verbatim from Priceline. I am looking at Near Las Vegas Strip East and can include Las Vegas Convention center, Areas 12 and 6. Currently the median price for these 2 areas are $312. What strategy would you suggest I begin with at a target winning bid of $130?

I looked above but didn't see it... for the Saturday nite are you looking for a 4* minimum? If so you can bid as follows:

At the 4* level in Vegas you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.
