thereuare
Welcome back...Based upon current rates, your $110 budget will not likely be enough for a 3* or better hotel for these dates... seasonally spring is an expensive time in NYC. Using MAPS and HOTELS.com (or any other resource) what is the best rate you're able to find at a 3* or better property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mella1983
Hi,okay, seems that 3* are really too expensive... So what do you think about 2* in the following areas in centre of NYC?for example:MTWChelseaTimes SquareMSGEmpire State buildingCan you recommend these? We checked the hotels in advance via www and it seems there are some nice ones included. What do you think???Thanks a lot...Melanie Link to comment
Romelle
Regarding strategy - if you are arriving late in the day, and/or departing early in the day, an airport hotel can be very convenient. PLUS, they are generally less expensive and will help your overall average cost. Romelle Link to comment
thereuare
So what do you think about 2* in the following areas in centre of NYC?What do you think???We usually don't recommend the lower rated hotels in NYC as even hotels of the same star rating can vary greatly from one property to the next. While there may be some 2* hotels which meet your needs, there may be some which do not, and with PRICELINE you can't choose which type it is that you will get. ;)Ultimately it's up to you how you'd like to play this one, but even at the 2* level $110 isn't a sure thing for these dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these previous links before replying. thereuare
We can try for a 3* up to $150 to start, then if that is rejected we'll revise to a 2.5* (or discuss some of your other options, such as, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option, or as per above, staying one nite at the beginning/end of your trip by the airport)Do note that in the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms, and in MTE some hotels at 3.5* and below can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway. Assuming both of these conditions are acceptable, i'd try bidding as follows:At the 3* level in NYC you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTW, MTE, CPS, Cheslea...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MSG, ESB...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MTE, CPS, Cheslea...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MSG, ESB...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MSG, CPS, Cheslea...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MTE, ESB...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MTE, ESB, Cheslea...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS, MSG, CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MTE, CPS, Cheslea, TS, MSG...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MTE, CPS, Cheslea, TS, ESB...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW, MTE, CPS, Cheslea, TS, MSG, ESB...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mella1983
Heeeeeeelp....It didn't work out for 3 stars... So please let's try a new strategy for 2.5... Thanks, looking forward to your soon reply!!! Link to comment
Romelle
Mella,Maybe you'd consider a zone a little further out rather than dropping to the 2 1/2* level? There is good public transportation in the general NYC area.Romelle Link to comment
thereuare
While i do think that $150 is, and will be, difficult for these dates during a peak season in NYC, are you sure you want to lower your star rating 4 months before your stay? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID or staying by the airport for one nite an option? If not HOTWIRE does have what i'm guessing to be the Best Western Convention Center for $163/nite... not the best hotel nor location, but the reviews are at least pretty good and it comes with free breakfast (which can perhaps justify the extra $13/nite over your budget)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. deejub
Long Island City is also an option. Only a couple of stops to NYC on the subway, the rates could well be in the target area (or even a bit lower), and all the reported properties down to 2.5* are OK per most posted reviews online. Down side is that the neighborhood is a touch dodgy (though it is not as bad as it looks -- largely industrial, with one massive housing project). I was in the Best Western Plaza a couple of weeks ago and there were tourists from all over Europe. Link to comment
mella1983
Hi there, until now we had no success with PRICELINE bidding, but now we found a 3* hotel via HOTWIRE.But we can*t find out, which one it is:amenities: non smoking rooms, restaurants, high speed internetarea: midtown east price: 1323 USD incl.taxesCould you please assist?we would like to book it this evening.many greetings and thank you so much...Melanie Link to comment
thereuare
I'm not currently seeing this (or any 3* property) offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for the needed 2rooms/4adults/0children?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mella1983
Yes, we are searching via HOTWIRE and still seeing it. Link to comment
thereuare
A property with this amenity set has not yet been reported to the board, but i'm also still not seeing this offered when searching for your dates (May 20-24, correct?). In fact, i'm not seeing any 3.5* property offered in the MTE zone when searching your dates for 2rooms/4adults... only a 4* hotel in this zone at $197/nite US. What is the room rate per nite of the 3.5* MTE property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
