First bid of $31 at 3.5* airport area was declined and countered with $46 which I declined and instead added nine other non-3.5* zones and re-bid with $2 increments and then $1 increments until $41 price accepted for same day booking. Since airport is also always cheaper than the other three zones with 3.5* hotels, I also used those zones too, for a total of thirteen possible bids, so I did two $2 increments and the rest as $1, knowing that my last bid would be for the $46 price I was countered with on my first bid and thus know I got the lowest possible price using this method.

Glad to see you're pleased with the results. Do note that while the Airport zone is usually cheaper than other zones, there are times when others have employed such strategies and ended up in a zone where they 'knew' it would be cheaper then the zone they really wanted. To use such a strategy i think you need to at least be open to the idea of staying in the 'other' zones you're adding. All in all, glad to see it worked out for you.
