Priceline Hotel: NYC for New Year's

Hi,

I have used Priceline and this website once before. Unfortunately, the last time I used this website I hadn't registered as a user.

I know that New Year's is typically crazy everywhere and this is especially true for New York City.

I would like to stay in either Midtown East or Midtown West for this trip. I am avoiding the craziness that is Times Square entirely. At least, I hope that we can.

To make things a little more complicated, I'm travelling with 3 other adults.

What's the best strategy for doing this? I know that I'll probably have to bid for each day separately (which is fine).

Thanks!

Shannon

I started off bidding for all 3 nights in midtown west with a price per night of $100 total $370.88 and a star rating of 3.5 stars.

2nd bid: same area, same number of nights, added 4 star rating and upped the price to $105 per night $388.06 total.

3rd bid: Added Upper West side, same number of nights, added 3 star plus (which doesn't exist in that area) and upped the price by $1 per night. Total bid $398.06.

Is there any other way I can tackle this?

Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!

To begin, are yo only searching for one room, as PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. This is especially true for NYC where there is a high percentage of rooms with only one bed and rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade (to add to the issue, these will likely be very busy dates and hotels will likely be at, or near, capacity... so a hotel may not be able to give you a room with two beds even if they wanted to) Is this a risk you're willing to accept?

If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)

What is your maximum budget for this trip, as your ~$100 bids are not likely realistic for these dates (not the complete stay at least... 12/31 you'll pay dearly for)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
