vegas_looker
Hi,A real newbie question here. If I select on price line "Las Vegas Strip Vicinity" as the check box and 5* is that the correct selection for the venetian and bellagio.I'm just nervy and hoping that is the right selection. If I can convince the wife I'll be starting bidding tonight :))CheersSteve Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!Yes, "Las Vegas Strip Vicinity" is the zone in which the Venetian and Bellagio reside. What are you planning on bidding and what are the date(s) of your stay? (we'll try to comment if your bids are realistic and/or suggest a strategy if you'd like) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
vegas_looker
Thats very decent of you Thereuare.Currently price line is showing median of $187.Dates of stay are a very busy period this year which wis wierd which is 26th Sept - 30th Sept. Was going to start at $100 and work my way up in 5's.Cheers for the help. vegas_looker
Are they the only 5* on price line in the whole of vegas BTW or is there hotels in other areas I should be cautious of?I can only think of bellagio, venetian and wynn and I am guessing wynn won't be on these types of websites yet.Just want to stay on the strip and no in HRH. thereuare
From PRICELINE RE-BIDDING:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.Following the above technique you can see the highest star rating offered in each zone. vegas_looker
Thanks. That makes sense now. Looks like only 5* is in the strip area.So I guess that leaves it to Bellgio and Venetian with the chances being it i will be venetian :))Sounds good to me. Link to comment
TBQ
Hi vegas looker,With Las Vegas being such a convention-driven town, sometimes it's valuable to look at the Convention Calendar, which thereuare has linked HERE.If I understand your dates to be September 26 to 30, then you should be aware of a bicycling industry tradeshow and convention being held at the Venetian and the adjacent Sands Expo Center on those proposed dates. There will be 26,000 delegates. In addition, there is also a packaging industry show at the LV Convention Center over some of those same dates (27,000 delegates). As you will read in other posts, conventions don't mean that Priceline rooms are impossible to obtain, but the chances do decrease.Good luck in your quest. Link to comment
vegas_looker
Oh well thats torn it.Tried 5* starting at $110 re-jectedTried 5* At $120 re-jectedTried 5* At $130 re-jectedTried 5* At $140 re-jectedTried 5* At $145 Re-jected.I guess I am looking a little low. Wife don't like the idea of not knowing that it is definatly the venetian. Tried to re-assure her the Venetian and Bellagio were the only two 5* hotels but she is much more cautious that me :)Anyone know how I can re-assure her some more?Am I bidding to low as well as the median price displayed it $181 Do I actually have to bid over this?Cheers Link to comment
vegas_looker
Thanks TBQ. I knew something was going on as a lot of the hotels are either expensive or black out dates.Looks like it might be back to luxor and the local travel agents. Was just hoping for somethine a bit more special for our wedding anniversary.Such is life. Link to comment
thereuare
Looks like it might be back to luxor and the local travel agents :) I missed your dates in the previous post (i hit "last post" and only saw the post under the one in which you supplied your dates). What is your budget... we'll help you find the best deal.Like the MONTE CARLO for $132/nite (and it's cancellable up until 3 days before check-in date if something better comes along... although from what i can tell right now this is a very good rate for these dates) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
vegas_looker
Would you believe Travel agents local to us are offering a standard room at luxor for $113.46 per night inc all taxes.Thats the only reason I was tempted. Compared to luxor's own rate of $133.50 per night inx taxes.Wife loves luxor as thats where we stayed when we got married so thought about going back. Was just hoping if I could get a cracking deal on venetian like some are available it would be fantastic. She don't like monte carlo :). Has a thing about her themed hotels. Would love to stay in the mirage. Budget is approx max of $160 inc tax. $140 ex tax. Thanks thereuare Link to comment
thereuare
That's a pretty good rate at the Luxor, although unlike your wife, i much prefer the Monte Carlo over the Luxor (pool, location, non-theme, etc) and think the MC is worth $25 extra per nite.Luxor often discounts from their website as they offer a $111/nite rate (w/o taxes) HERE. THIS SITE has the Excalibur at $60/nite which is an excellent rate... not as nice as Luxor but for nearly half the price it's a better value (imo).Luxor does offer a 'best rate guarantee' so if that is where you will ultimately end up, you may want to call them and reference the rates HERE. If they do more than simply match (ie- match +10% off or some other deal like that) then you'll come out ahead of your travel agent's offer. vegas_looker
Thanks thereuare.I thought it was a very good rate and as we stayed there when we got married holds some good memories :)I did call the luxor and surprisingly i was actually told if you can get that rate then you better book it as we can't price match.Very confusing considering what is on their website but hey. So I booked it earlier.Amazing that the travel agents can still at time get the best rates :)Thanks for all the help. Link to comment
thereuare
I did call the luxor and surprisingly i was actually told if you can get that rate then you better book it as we can't price match. So much for the "Lowest Price Guaranteed" statement. It's times like that when i take things to the next level and lean into them a bit in an attempt to get a better deal than i had found... how can you claim a low price guarantee and then tell the customer "Wow, that's good! If you can get that yoiu should take it!" :) Some businesses just don't "get it".Hope you take them for everything they got at the casino!Enjoy your stay. Will recommend it to collegues and friends :) Link to comment
mini__me
Hi Vegas_looker,If you want to call from the UK to give them grief then use this number: 0844 462 95 95Then simply enter the number in the USA you want to dial, with international dialing code.Calls cost 2p per minute :) Link to comment
iodonnel
Hi mini_me, does that code work from Ireland as well?? Can it be used to call, for example, the NYNY hotel????Thanks Link to comment
