daffyd
Just for information, if anyone else is planning travel around this time,Bid up to $105 for 3* NYC 12/11/11 - 12/16/11Focussed on zones CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TSBest alternative at the moment looks like HOTWIRE 3* Empire State Building area hotel, $142 p.n, appears to be Murray Hill East Suites which would be fine but ideally would spend less.I'm also considering what to do for my first few days in the area (arrive Newark on 12/7) but that week looks extremely expensive, so I may spend a night in an airport hotel before visiting friends further away from NYC for a few days.I have plenty of time to bid so will probably try again over the next few days - my psychological cutoff given the hotwire offer is around $120 but I hope for less.I have been using the board's PRICELINE link to begin my purchases.Regards,David Link to comment
thereuare
Thanks for the data points. As you've probably found, these dates are right at the 'tipping point' of when rates go from high-season to low-season. NYC has been pretty strong so far this year (we haven't seen rates drop as much as expected for the low summer season), so where we typically see rates drop around mid-December (as more people focus on the holidays and travel less), it may happen later this year and we might not see rates drop until even closer to Christmas. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you we can be of any help along the way. daffyd
Update:Rebid up to $130 for the 5 nights and $140 for 12/12-12/16 without success. Also tried 4* Jersey City up to $140 for 12/12-12/16 without success (not that I'd expect it mid-week).Booked on HOTWIRE, 3* Empire State Building for 12/12-12/16Suite, Fitness, Laundry Kitchenette$143 p.n.As expected, result was the Murray Hill East SuitesGreat location, just a little more than I'd like to pay. It will be fine and beats any other option I can see at present.Plan to stay with friends out of the city for the weekend prior and still considering cheap alternatives the week prior due to high prices (e.g. a night in an airport hotel when I arrive, The Jane, The Pod or similar less private accommodation for a couple of nights). I'll book one of these as a cancellable backup (ideally through your links - your quickbook link isn't working!) and see if anything changes over the coming months. If you have any other thoughts on the later part of the week prior (Dec 7 - 9/10), happy to hear them but I'm not expecting much of a deal that week.Regards,David Link to comment
