Priceline Hotel: 5* London (Mayfair - Soho) Need suggestions

I have been bidding on a 5* hotel on priceline for the Mayfair - Soho area of London for a 10 night stay (Sep 2-12, 2011).

My bids have ranged from $165 to $175 using the strategies mentioned in the forum. I know from this forum that this price range is possible but, so far, have had no luck.

Is it possible that these hotels wait until the last minute to offer lower prices? If so, should I leave my bidding till a week or so before my trip?

I would appreciate any comments from those of you who are more knowledable.
