I'm not sure of this HOTWIRE property but if you're looking for alternatives i think i'm also seeing the Crowne Plaza Westshore for $84/nite if that is of any interest to you.

How were you seeing the Crowne Plaza? I didnt get it up in any of my searches.

I might also end up also stayin Sunday night as well, waiting for the girlfriend to figure out her schedule lol

I was afraid the hotel i was inquiring about might be a new one or one with an amenity hidden. Theres too many box hotels i dont like in the area that could fall into that rating so Im not being very brave on random hotels lol.

I do like the Intercontinental the only thing thats holding me back is ill have 2 cars parked there for 2 or 3 nights, not a huge deal but Crowne Plaza, and some of the others that are nearly as nice have free parking which is a plus.

I did see the Chase suites for around $50 a night which seem very nice at that rate but the location is horrible to me (im from south tampa), there is nothing out that way and its a 15 minute drive past the others.

While we are there we will probably utilize cab friday and/or saturday night to the downtown area for drinks with friends etc so the closer the better.

Thanks guys!

As The Topic says this one has me tripped up I believe the 4* for $88 is the intercontinental

Im trying to figure out this 3.5* in the same area for $66. Full amenities include Fitness Center, Pools, Restaurant, & High Speed Internet

Thanks in advance guys!

I just obtained the Sheraton Suites in this zone for $60. Amenities are:

Suite Airport Shuttle Smoke Free Rooms

Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s)

High-speed Internet Access

Ok as many of you all know i have used hotwire many times and pretty much avoided priceline. I think i might be ready to give priceline a try for an upcoming weekend trip (still not sure of my dates) but have the following questions:

Using the betterbidding priceline hotel list and PRICELINE link i logged on to priceline.

1)Priceline List for Tampa-Downtown has the Embessy Suites Listed as a 3.5*. However the normal buy it now way only lists Embessy Suites as a 3*. Does this means priceline has changed their rating of the hotel or can it be a 3* on regular buy it now and 3.5* on the name your own bid page?

2)If Priceline regular view has 3 hotels. Say Tampa-Airport Westshore with 3.5* star ratings on the "buy it now page" hotel a is $125 hotel b is $145 and hotel c is $160 then when you go to the name your own price section does that mean you are definitely bidding on hotel a?

3)If a hotel is not listed on the "buy it now" part of priceline for the dates of my stay does that mean its not available at all on the name your own price area?

thanks in advance!

I can only find one HOTWIRE stay posted from you. Please share your stays so all members can gain from the information.

Embassy Suites has not been reported as a PRICELINE hotel to the board. Are you looking at the HOTWIRE list? This hotel is reported in the "Airport TPA South-Westshore" zone rated 3*

No, you can get a diffrent hotel. You have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select.
If a hotel is not listed on the "buy it now" part of priceline for the dates of my stay does that mean its not available at all on the name your own price area?
The retail section and NYOP are two diffrent things. The retail section got a diffrent hotel inventory so you can't "speculate" about the hotel like you do. It might work in small zones sometimes but don't use it this way.

Let us know how we can help you further.

Yellow Dog: Thanks for your help with my questions, i did indeed mistake seeing the Embessy Suites downtown as on the list

Beach Bum: Thanks for your help, I noticed your large list of recent stays, very helpful! and i bet with you traveling as much as you do these sites really save you a nice amount!

It looks like the Hyatt Place has been added adn the Intercontinental has disappeared from Hotwire today. As soon as my girlfriend figures out if she needs to be at work next monday (i pray tomorrow lol) I will give priceline a shot i think :) Ill let you guys know how it turns out!

Tampa: Airport South & Westshore Area 1/28/2011-1/31/2011 Marriott Westshore 3.5* $50 Per Night

Admin please move this to priceline thread and calendar of wins!

Ok guys i just completed my first priceline experience. As I posted before I was waiting for my girlfriend to decide if we could stay Sunday night or not depending if she needed to be at work. Well we ended up deciding to have a more relaxed weekend here, then I learned many more friends were attending the even in Tampa. So i said what the hell and she quickly joined.

After checking Hotwire one last time I noticed the Intercontinental in this area had plummeted to $77 a night, good deal but its really not that great of a hotel and they get you for $20 parking per night (Renaissance has very safe and ample free parking!) and we will have 2 cars, and a 3rd possibly on one day when we have people visit us. Normally I dont worry about parking charges as long as its good quality parking but when the hotel isnt any more special really then others near by in the 3.5* rating and they offer free parking thats just as good, its something to consider!

The 3.5* on Hotwire for $66 or so was not identifiable by myself or the board and Im not very adventuresome so I decided I didnt want to risk ending up somewhere I didnt like.

On the priceline list I was fine with all the hotels listed under the areas and categories I began to bid on. I was also tempted to try my luck at the downtown zone as those 3.5*s are all decent and the event we are going to is downtown. However those hotels are asking much more $$$ and also have parking charges and im not sure of the quality of the parking so I decided id rather just pay more for a cab and still probably come out better.

Beginning with the previous 4* I began bidding and re bidding starting at $25 :) lol all the way to $40 until i had discipline and reminded myself of those parking charges. I then started out at $35 and re-bidding in $5 increments to $50.

This hotel on Kayak was going for $130 a night, it was actually more expensive then other hotels in the same rating and zone on priceline. Crowne Plaza $104, Sheraton Suites $107, and Double Tree at $123, So I was quite surprised to get it but not disappointed. The only complaint seems to be smaller rooms but I wont be in the room much and its just my girlfriend and I who stay "close" anyways at night lol.

Ill be sure to let you all know how the stay is, Thanks again guys!

John you are correct, i had not checked the website before I had just called them and they said self parking was $15. I just now called back and the manager said the employee I spoke with last week must have been misinformed as they do not charge for self parking however the guest has all liability for their vehicle. The valet parking the hotel is responsible for but they are in the same garage thats part of the hotel. Being from this area unless you dont use common sense id have no worry of leaving my car in the garage.

lol I guess that gives me a reason to give them a shot next time, no big deal though. Thanks for pointing this out!
