A day earlier, I began at $46 and got $15 counteroffer. Instead, I unsuccessfully bid up to $50 in $2 increments.

This time, I started at $52 and got the Hyatt Regency on the first try. Great price for an excellent hotel in a very convenient location, atop the Bethesda Metro station.
