stevesul
I booked it and its Distrikt Hotel New York City http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g6...y_New_York.htmlA little up for chelsea but the reviews are good. I'll reply again with feedback.BTW- I close out the other threads with the hotel I actually book to add to the community (like I did above). Didn't realize I was supposed to close threads in which I don't book.Steve Link to comment

stevesul
This is a new non-smoking property opened in February 2010 on W 40th Street between 8th and 9th (Hell's Kitchen). This hotel should really be considered the Times Square area and not MSG and Chelsea. It is 2 blocks from Times square and 6 from MSG and 15 blocks from Chelsea. Hotwire has a funny way of doing zones in NYC.We had a king bed and its a really nice (and size) room. The bed is one of the best we have ever slept in a hotel. Bathroom is spotless with a decent sized shower with glass doors. Flat screen LG LCD with all HD stations including HBO and HBO2. Free wireless in the room (slow) and safe in the room that fits a laptop easily. Mini bar with usual 3.25 sodas and 6.50 beers.31 floors...only 5 rooms per floor. Small bar in the back behind the lobby that we did not go to. Four iMacs in the lobby with large screens free to use. Free iced tea and coffee in the lobby depending on time of day.We spoke to the front desk and they said they just went on Hotwire...and would fix the icon issue. They should at least have the Boutique and Internet icon.No pool or fitness center but they give you free passes to a local club (we did not use due to all the walking). If coming in from the Lincoln Tunnel, hotel is a minute from there. Self parking is only $24 a day next door which a good deal for the area. Only negative is the area...the hotel is in a string of four new hotels in a row that face the side of the Port Authority (bus terminal). Fortunately you don't see the busses go in and out on this side. It's safe to walk around. Subway is only a block away at port authority. Very short walk to Times Square so the location is not all bad.Very happy with this room for $179. If you can snag this one at a good price...grab it. Nice place!Other stuff:Cheap pizza on the corner called 2 brothers...$1 slices. Not nearly the best NY pizza...but its definitely worth (more than) $1.Another one around the corner called 99 cents fresh pizza http://www.yelp.com/biz/99-cents-fresh-pizza-new-york Saw some cops there eating, figured it was ok, so we had a slice. Not bad for a cheap eat and it was $1 a slice and not $3.Hotel suggested Westway Diner for breakfast http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=2563...=12&iwloc=ALooked in and saw 8 cops eating in there...so figured it must be ok. Low prices...decent food. Ate dinner outside at Dos Caminos in the Meat Packing distict. Food was good..great Tequila list. Server was friendly. http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&r...ved=0CBoQnwIwAQSteve Link to comment
