stevepdx
Requesting advice. We will be going to Broadway shows every day so want to be in easy walking distance. Also will be going to MOMA and the Met. Budget about $250, could go a little higher for 5*. Is it reasonable to shop for deals now or better to wait until closer to our dates? Thanks for any advice. thereuare
This is peak season in NYC and 5* hotels in NYC usually come at a steep premium (whether it's high season or not) vs. their 4* counterparts... at current rates i think a 5* hotel is going to run you closer to the $325/nite area. If you're willing to include the CPS zone then $250/nite may be possible (but keep in mind the Westhouse in this zone charges over $35/nite 'resort' fee in addition to your bid amount)... a 4.5* hotel in the MTC or TS zone closer to $260-$280... or a 4* significantly less at less than $200/nite. As far as rates dropping between now and your stay, there is no way to know, it all depends how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new cancellations/reservations, but as noted above keep in mind that this is peak season for NYC, and there is not as much vacancy as there was 5+ years ago when the economy (and hotel industry) was struggling. stevepdx
Decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on this and am happy with the result. Listed amenities were: Free internet, pet friendly, smoke free, fitness center, restaurant and business center. The Algonquin was obvious as it was the only 4.5* with pet-friendly listed. Thanks for your advice. It was very helpful. Link to comment
