Looking for a 4* hotel for 3 nights in NYC...looks like Chinatown and Harlem are the two rebidding zones that can be used...is this correct?

Would like to be in the Times Square or another central area to transit...considering MTE, MSG areas as well.  We will be a the Met one night and a broadway show another night so want to be central.  Any insight on rebidding ideas would be appreciated....have checked Pricelne/Hotwire prices and all seem to be over $300 Canadian....is it possible for something in the $200-$250 rate?

Thanks! (yes will use your Priceline link when bidding)

There is no 'Chinatown' zone on PRICELINE, please list your re-bid zones by priceline name and we will confirm them for you. Also, there are THREE re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in NYC, please use the technique discussed in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and if you're confused or unable to find the third we will break it down further for you.

To confirm, your dates are May 5-May 8? What is your maximum bid in US Dollars?

As far as zones go, at the 4* level all of the following work well for the typical user and are considered to be centrally located:

MTW, TS, MSG, ESB

The following may or may not be good for your needs with the following caveats noted:

CPS - well located but contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms, even by NYC standards

MTE - most hotels in the zone are well located, but a few can be up to a 10-15 minute walk to the subway

Chelsea - some hotels can be up to a 10 minute walk to the subway, but this is a hot area right now with lots of bars, boutiques, clubs, cafes, restaurants, etc. that is still a very desirable and frequently bid zone.

Let us know which zone(s) are acceptable (or feel free to ask any additional questions as i'm quite familiar with NYC) and we'll take it from there.

Thanks....Chinatown was showing under the Regular Price List as an area.....forgot to use the zones listed in the name your own price list (haven't bid for a while!)

Based on the list Coney Island, Morningside Heights-Harlem and Queensborough Bridge are the three re-bid zones for 4* hotels. Also appreciate your comments about the hotels not close to subway lines. So I would consider the TS, MSG, ESB areas as well as your recommended MTW location .

Ideally would like to stay under $200US but not sure this is feasible for May.

Thanks again for your help!

My guess is that the above may fall short, but if so:

1) i think you can win a 4* hotel in one of these zones for another $10-$15/nite

2) what looks like the Empire Hotel in the UWS zone is offered for $196/nite thru PRICELINE EXPRESS. This isn't as convenient as the zones above, but it is in the southern part of the UWS zone and near a subway station, so while perhaps not your first choice of location, it's certain do-able for the right price and if staying within budget is more important than increasing another $10-$15.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info....tried bidding up to $190 and didn't get anything.  In light of  some of the express deals and prepay deals at some hotels I looked at I will wait and try again.

Could that $196 PRICELINE EXPRESS deal you mentioned below be something other than the Empire?  As we're at the Met our last night with an early departure in the morning, that hotel might work as I'm assuming it is close to the subway.

It could always something other than we think (as we can't see the hotel name either ;) ), but i'm very comfortable with this guess.

If you are interested in this property it is a 4* and showing with Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center. However, keep in mind that this offer can disappear at any time, so you can't necessarily use this as a back-up for too long as it may not be offered once you decide you want it.

If you do choose to wait, i'd suggest using our RateDrop service (it's FREE) which will monitor prices for these dates in the zones and star ratings you are interested in and alert you if the rate drops (at which point you can make the purchase or it would be a good time to try your bidding again)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Keep us updated on your progress and let us know how we can be of further help.
