berfloodz
Hi I used PRICELINE in the past for NYC, both times for Time Square. Last time I got the Westin and it was very good. This time however I am looking for something more affordable as we are going for a longer time and over Thanksgiving. I would like to spend between $150 - $200/night incl taxes. Having stayed in Times Square I think I would be happy with the following zones but I am open to suggestions :) MTE MTW Empire State MSG Times Square Using the BiddingHelper.com I see two in the MTE zone for 148 and 172 euro ($188 and $219). Any suggestions on the above? Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
Few comments to get started... First, note that the ONE UN is a 4* hotel in the MTE zone and is a bit far east in the zone for the liking of some as it can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? To avoid any confusion, what is your maximum bid amount (before fees/taxes) for this stay? If all the zones above are still acceptable, looking at current rates i think you're more likely looking at the $165-$185 range... if MTE is not acceptable i think you're likely in the $180-$200 area. berfloodz
Ok the One UN looks a bit too East so I guess I will leave out MTE. I would like to try a max bid of 180 first. If that doesnt work then I will try a max bid of 200. Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. berfloodz
Thanks for the strategy, Before I try it out I am trying to get an idea of the hotels I might get. I see the cheapest PRICELINE EXPRESS deal at the moment is in MSG for $207 . Any guesses what hotel this is? In Hot.wire there is also a hotel for $208 in its MSG zone. Any guesses what hotel this is? FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower Link to comment
Romelle
... I am trying to get an idea of the hotels I might get. For an idea of what you might get via bidding, the Hotel Lists (a general link up in the header or a New York direct link down toward the bottom of the page if you are already in this Priceline - New York area). These are all the hotels members have reported as receiving via bidding. The PRICELINE EXPRESS deals aren't necessarily included in those offered for bidding, and vice-versa. Might be, but might not be. Same for the Hot.wire deals. Romelle Link to comment
thereuare
From the Hotwire Hotel List the 4* MSG property matches previous reports for the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel, but as per above, this may or may not be the hotel you receive when bidding, so not much use in identifying these properties unless you intend to purchase thru the source offered, as it can lead to a false sense of security of what you are expecting when bidding. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. berfloodz
Ok i think the hotel for 207 in MSG might be the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel.I dont really like this hotel, reviews are not great i.e. dated and small rooms. Any suggestions for a bidding strategy if I was to leave out MSG and maybe add a different zone e.g. SPS or Chelsea Link to comment
thereuare
Any suggestions for a bidding strategy if I was to leave out MSG and maybe add a different zone e.g. SPS or Chelsea What is the SPS zone... did you mean CPS (Central Park South)? If so, this zone contains the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms... would this be an acceptable outcome? Please confirm if we should adjust/add CPS and/or Chelsea to the bidding strategy (and remove MSG) and we will advise accordingly. berfloodz
Sorry yes I mean CPS.Please remove MSG and add only Chelsea. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
I think MSG was likely your least expensive zone, no indication that Chelsea is any cheaper than the other zones, and $180 likely being at the very low end of the range as to what may be accepted... so i think you can stick with the previous strategy but substituted Chelsea for the MSG zone: Select 4* MTW and ESB... Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICE.LINE... Select 4* Chelsea and TS... berfloodz
My travel dates were up in the air so I couldnt book anything. New dates are 29th - 3rd Dec. I see a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for $200 in MSG and $235 in TS Any guesses on the hotels? Also see Hot.wire deals for 211 in MSG and 234 in TS Again any guesses on the hotels? thereuare
Are your travel dates now firm? As all three hotels above are above your previously stated budget of $180 per nite bid amount, is your gameplan to first try for a better price by bidding on PRICELINE? thereuare
Since you intend to try bidding on PRICELINE first let's start there since it may not be necessary to take the time research the hotels above (if your bidding is successful) and these also may not be the hotels offered once you decide to increase your budget to the prices above. Are still looking at bidding the MTW, ESB, Chelsea, and TS zones up to $180/nite? (or have you increased your budget at all) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. berfloodz
My budget is still the same. If I thought one of the deals was the Wyndham then I think I would take it because my mother is staying there 1-3rd of December.I was also thinking of bidding on just MSG hoping to get the Wyndham for less than $200. thereuare
If you want to try and target the Wyndham New Yorker, THIS PRICELINE EXPRESS deal (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $200/nite is my guess for the Wyndham. Let us know how it goes OR if you want to pursue some other approach. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle
... thinking of bidding on just MSG hoping to get the Wyndham for less than $200. The Wyndham is one of five MSG Priceline bidding 4*s reported by members. And of course there is always the possibility of an as yet unreported hotel (slim in well reported places like NYC, but possible). In the recent past it does look like the Wyndham is won fairly frequently, but ?? You get to decide the value of the $ saved vs the risk of a different hotel.... Romelle Link to comment
