snowolf
Half a month ago I bided successfully in MTE, $130 get one night in Marriott which is four stars hotel. We now plan to go back to NYC between Sep 17 and 19. But I have tried many times in TS, MTE, MTW and MSG. Even $150 is not accepted for a 3.5 stars hotel. Since we will visit Manhattan in those two days, we don't want to live in Brookly or other far away place. I wonder why I got such a cheap price before but now even Express Deal can be higer than $250?? Should I wait for longer time and see if they will have more discount or I will have the same high price later? Thanks for your help!! Link to comment

snowolf
I would like to get a home no higher than $160 per night. I appreciate to stay in Manhattan for we will mostly visit there. Thanks! I will post my win seperately. Link to comment
thereuare
You can wait and hope for rates to head lower, but current rates are substantially higher than your $160/nite budget that you would need to see a MAJOR drop in rates for $160 to be successful... do you have a Plan B?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. snowolf
Thanks for your suggestion. But how about the price in downtown? Even though I really don't want to live there because it is a little far away. But if the price in middle town will be as high as now....I will be forced to consider downtown. I never waited until the real last minutes, but from your experience, will the price be lower, t.ex around 2 or 3 days before my check-in date? Thanks :) Link to comment
thereuare
Even Downtown is expensive for your dates. There is no telling if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay... it all depends upon how actual new reservations and cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations and cancellations. However, i believe the United Nations starts their session on Sept. 18th and that is likely a major factor in the high rates you're seeing (and at least those nationals attending for this reason won't likely be canceling their reservations)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. snowolf
Ok, thanks. So how about I rise my expect budget up to 250 dollars? Is it possible to bid two rooms in Manhattan? If so, could you help me with the strategy? Thanks for all your help :) Link to comment

I accept the price. :)Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your purchase with the board. Can you please add a reply to this thread clarifying if you won this hotel by bidding at PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price OR was this a 'retail' purchase where you knew the name of the hotel beforehand? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. snowolf
Yes it is from Priceline "Name Your Own Price". I saw a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal 4* in TS with $246, I thought it could be cheaper if I bid it. Since you told me because of the UN meeting the price in Manhattan might go up, I decided to take the deal. The price I started from $205 and add 2 or 3 dollar each time. I guessed 4* hotels in other zones might not be as cheap as this one at that time, so I almost can add every zone as a re-bid zone. Anyway, I don't care if I get a room in MTE or MTW. Link to comment
AaronJB
Pretty terrific deal for a very busy period.Enjoy your stay. Link to comment
