Chi Hoang
Hi y'all,This is my first time trying bidding on either Hotwire or Priceline. My boyfriend and I are visiting New York this May (from 13 to 17). As our budget is tight (around $100/night) but we would love to stay in Manhattan, I am looking for a 3* (or even a bit lower) deal. Please give me some advice on the areas I should bid and the starting price. Thank you!!! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!Your budget is very low for this time of year so i'm not really sure how much choice you're going to have in zones, as you may need to be lucky to get something anywhere within Manhattan at $100 or less.I would start with: Chelsea, CPS, ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MTW, Soho, TSAlso, DT-Financial is a litle 'out of the way' but certainly do able, and often one of the least expensive zones, so you may want to consider this one too, either in your initial bidding OR if your first set of zones failsPlease look at the zones above and confirm which one(s) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Chi Hoang
Dear Admin,Thank you very much for your reply. I have booked Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City (just for reservation) for $131 so I am looking for a deal better than that (at a convenient location). I am willing to bid for all those areas so please suggest a strategy for me.Thank you! Link to comment
AaronJB
Unfortunately, I think $100 is going to be extremely unlikely for these dates in Manhattan, as the Spring season is really one of the busiest/most expensive of the year. More likely is a better-located (in Manhattan) property than your back-up location for a similar ($115-130) price at the 3* level in the zones noted above.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Chi Hoang
Dear Aaron,Same price ($115-$130) with better location (in Manhattan) at the 3* level should be fine for me. Please help me with the bidding strategy. Thank y'all! Link to comment

Chi Hoang
Dear Admin,Thank you for your suggested strategy. However, this is my first time trying the bid so I am kinda afraid that they would put me in a hotel that is located in a creepy neighbourhood or the one that has bad reputation for service. Then if they charged my credit card, there is no way I can be refunded. Is there any way that I can know a little bit information about the hotel before purchasing (that way I think I can ask some of the hotel experts like you guys to figure out which hotel it is) Thank you! thereuare
When bidding on PRICELINE you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. However, if you search HOTWIRE for your dates i don't think you'll find anything near your desired star rating and budget.See I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire for a further discussion on the similarities, and differences, between each service. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
