I have been trying to bid for 7/29-7/31 up to $70 for a 3.5* with many areas selected and failed.

I went up to $67 for a 3* and failed as well. Counter offer was $84.

I went up to $60 for a 3.5* for 7/30-8/1 yesterday and failed.

After I had gone up to $70 for 7/29-7/31 today, I changed to $55 for 7/30-8/1 and got Double Tree on the first bid. So weird. Is there something going on this weekend?

Sorry to see this was a difficult win for you, but i know another user was having trouble for date around this time as well. I'm not sure if there is a special event in the area or at the parks, but it could simply be high summer season traffic in the area with more families vacationing during the summer. Also, while the economy is still soft and unpredictable, the hotel market is definitely stronger then it was just a year or two ago, and i think hotels are seeing higher occupancy levels, which will likely translate to higher hotel rates for both 'opaque' and 'traditional' bookings.
