pixieray
Hi! Using information from this forum, I was able to book the Royal Lahaina in Maui over the 4/8 weekend for $131 per night. I tried the rate of $115, then $120, then $125 first. When I got to the $125 bid, I immediately got an offer to increase my bid by $40 to $165. Instead, I bid one more time at $131. Unfortunately, I don't think this rate is that excellent because with the Priceline fees, you're only paying about $20-25 less per night than getting a guaranteed tower room by booking through other travel sites (supposedly the Garden Cottage rooms are completely atrocious). I spoke with the reservationist and the front office manager at the Royal Lahaina and their director of reservations in their headquarters at LA and was unable to get any guarantee that the room would be in the tower. :) Anyway, kind of a frustrating situation since someone else seems to have had a more favorable answer on this forum, but just be aware that you're getting a "run of the house" room and there are not guarantees! :) Link to comment
thereuare
Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Before arrival i would check the price difference between the tower rooms and the cottage rooms so that if you are assigned a a cottage room, you can use the price difference as a starting point to negotiate a paid upgrade to the tower rooms. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. pixieray
Thanks for your suggestion! I actually already tried this with the hotel, but they wouldn't honor the difference in pricing, but wanted an additional $55 per night... I'll try again though when we get there if we're stuck in the cottage. Thank you! Link to comment

I just ask to be in the tower and they said OK right away. The "priceline rooms" in the tower are on the 3rd floor with no views. I was proposed to upgrade to a partial ocean view for $60 per night. I refused. I spend all my time outside on the beach anyway, The rooms in the tower are great. The cottage room don't seem attractive at all. Link to comment
