I did not check mark the box for resort because I did not want to pay a resort fee but they still gave me a hotel from the resort category. The Caribe Hilton. I knew that they can upgrade you in star levels but I did not think that they would switch me from the hotel to the resort category because of that reason... Link to comment

As you now know, you can be upgraded to a Resort class hotel when bidding for a lower star property. As well, note that resort fees are not just applicable to resort rated properties... it's become a 'new' source of revenue for hotels at all star levels and we've seen resort fees charged at lower rated properties too. I stayed here a few years back and don't recall the resort fee being too bad at this property... hopefully it won't be too much and you'll still feel this was a good value.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
