I'm having a little buyer's remorse, the price is great but most of the reviews on Trip Advisor are awful - doesn't sound like it deserves a 4*. Link to comment
AaronJB
This is a fine enough older property that saw some renovations recently. It's also in an AWESOME location right on Michigan Ave. That said, the 4* rating is definitely one of the most questionable in the city - it's more accurately a 3*/3.5* (it was 3*, I believe, before it was taken over and given some renovation a year or two ago). As for the tripadvisor reviews, there are quite a few similar hotels in Chicago.Again, not a "bad" hotel, but the 4* rating is a bit much. Still, can't beat the location. Link to comment
Randall310
Good to know. What's the food situation? The reviews all say the hotel breakfast is way too expensive -- is there a Starbucks right around there? As I said, it's a great price and it's only 1 night, so even if I get a room so small I have to go outside to change my mind it's not a huge deal. Thanks! AaronJB
Easy recommendation: The hotel is on the corner of Huron and Michigan Ave. Walk 1 block East on Huron to the corner of St Clair and Huron. Walk 1 block South on St Clair to St Clair and Erie and there's a Corner Bakery (http://www.cornerbakerycafe.com/home.aspx) on the corner of that intersection. Great choice for a very nice breakfast/lunch/dinner. There's also apparently a Starbucks right by the Allerton, but I'm not remembering it exactly - either way, I'd recommend Corner instead.
