second_price
I am visiting NYC from 9/23/2009 (tue morning) to 9/27/2009 (sun evening, JFK). Since hotels are expensive on weekdays, compared to weekends, I plan to stay near JFK for the first 2 nights, and then in Manhattan (thu - sunday). Does this look like a good plan? When should I start bidding on Priceline and search Hotwire? Is it better to wait till I am closer to the travel dates? Is it better to search/bid on certain days of the week? Thanks! Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to the site. :)It is best to bid when your plans are confirmed. Waiting to see if prices go down is placing a bet - that bet can go the other way if something is going on on your dates and traffic - as well as prices - ramp up. Many people try to "wait it out", only to see the HOTWIRE listing (for example), they had their eye on go up in price. What would be your budget? Desired star ratings? What areas of NYC are you interested in staying? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links. Link to comment
second_price
Thanks Aaron! The budget is $150 per night (willing to go up to $200 with tax).Preferred areas in Manhattan are around Central Park, Times Square. Any other good areas that are safe for walking late at night (mugging, etc) and close to most tourist places are also OK. Looking at other posts on the forum, it seems like going below 3.5* in Manhattan is not a good idea. So we are looking for at least 3.5*.We are in NYC for a total of 5 nights. Want to spend at least 3 nights in Manhattan. Willing to spend the other 2 outside Manhattan if you think the budget is too low. Any recos? Link to comment

second_price
My wife and I are visiting NYC for the first time in September. Mostly interested in visiting Manhattan attractions.I need help with the bidding strategy.Dates: 5 nights September 22 - September 27 (Tuesday night - Saturday night)Tried this strategy and failed:4* with the following series of bidsCPS $121 (rejected)+MTE $126 (rejected)+MTW $133 (rejected)+MSG $141 (rejected)+TS $146 (rejected)+ESB $151 (rejected)+Chelsea (just for rebidding; no 4* here) $156 (rejected)I have seen good deals on Travelzoo for Thu-Sunday, but not as many for Tuesday/Wednesday. Is it a good idea to split the stay into two parts for bidding on PL?BUDGET (not including tax): $150 for 3.5*, or up to $175 for 4*.I am interested in the following zones.4* zones: CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, ESB3.5* zones: MTE, MTW, MSG, ESB, TS (except for Sheraton Manhattan Times Square which has poor review on TA).Excluding CPS for 3.5* due to poor reviews on TA for most 3.5* hotels in that zone. Please let me know if these areas are good.Thanks. thereuare
At the moment i doubt your budget is going to be enough for either star level, but let's start with the following and we'll take it from there...At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* CPS, MTE, MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS, ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, MTE, MTW, TS, and ESB...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected, did you then want to try for a 3.5* or is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? thereuare
At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones.
