Hotwire Hotel: 3* NYC MTE

Per another post, and judging from the amenities and price, the Tudor is available in MTE for $219.

That's cheaper than the 2.5* Times Square back-up we've booked, but I'm concerned about the TripAdvisor ratings and the location, given that we're first time visitors and want to be able to quickly get everywhere! The neighbourhood also seems to be all business. Can anyone offer me any advice? The deal still appears to be available.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

There are two other hotels in this zone with the same exact amenities and star rating, so it may not necessarily be the Tudor Hotel... there are realistically at least three possibilities. (although the Tudor has been coming up more frequently than the others)

What are the date(s) of your stay? Where and how much is your back-up?

I'm local to the area so haven't stayed in too many NYC hotels, but i have stayed in this one. (assuming it's the Tudor)

It's a legitimate 3 star hotel... the room was decent sized by NYC standards and it was clean, although i remember the room being a bit dark and not all that 'cheerful'. We didn't have much contact with the staff other than check-in which went smoothly enough, no major problems. I just read thru the most recent reviews and they're actually pretty good... not sure what you found negative about them.

You could certainly do worse in NYC, and if you ultimately end up there i think it'll be fine, but i also think you could probably do better given the amount of time before your stay. This would be especially true if you're basically looking for the hotel as a place to sleep for the nite, not sure i'd feel the same way if you were looking for concierge services, in-room dining, etc.

Are you looking for double occupancy? If so, i would begin by trying price.lne for a 4* hotel in any of the midtown zones, up to $200-$225 in hopes of improving upon your back-up, which would also be an upgrade in quality of the 3* HOTWIRE hotel above. If you want to go this route let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

It's just the two of us. We'd like a clean, reasonably quiet (I can handle a bit of street noise, but no clubs that are pumping until 4am, etc.), fairly decent hotel in a location that's easily accessible by subway (i.e. with a couple of minutes' walk) and well located to travel about Manhattan. We definitely need a queen room rather than a double due to my fiance's height. Other than that, fairly flexible!

Before I found this forum I bid on Priceline without luck, up to $225 in the Times Square area mostly (realizing I was probably dreaming on the price). I suppose I should expand my horizons in terms of the areas I select. Any strategy suggestions? I will of course use this site's link now so you get the referral.

Thanks in advance!

With PRICELINE you can't guarantee the bed configuration, although in most situations i think you'll get at least a queen (or two doubles) when bidding 4 star hotels.

Are you willing to bid all the midtown locations? (MTE, MTW, UM-CPS, Times Square, MTS)

Let us know if that is acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thanks in advance for using our PRICELINE link.

Generally speaking i think a 4* in any of the above zones would suit your needs (but of course, as with any large city, use common sense, especially at nite)

At the 4* level in NYC you have four re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.
